Generally speaking, can a 2716 eprom be used in place of a 2732? I've gleaned from some posts that the thing to do is create a double image (copy /b x+x y), burn that to the 2732, and since it has the same pinout that will work.

Does that seem right? My Defender all of a sudden is doing the "2 cycle rug pattern" and I think that's pointing me to some possible bad ROMs or ribbon cable. But I wanted to clarify the issue about the ROM compatibility. Thanks!

You can use a 2732 (4Kb eprom) instead of a 2716 (2Kb eprom),
but not the other way around (...obviously ).

And yes, to be safe you should copy the 2716 image twice on the 2732.

Also, Rom #2 and Rom #3 on Defender are actually 2532
(...whereas as all the others are 2716 ).

You can NOT replace the 2532 eproms with 2732
(...unless you do some kind of obscure jumper change somewhere )

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Steph

Thanks Steph! Hey I might not need this, but would you be able to just burn me a set of the 11 Defender red roms / do you have the blank eprom set to burn on? If so, what would that run me? Feel free to PM me. Thanks again! -Wes

Your post is backward but we know you meant a 2732 in a 2716 socket. The answer is yes and I do it all of the time. The most compatible way to do it is to copy the 2716 image twice into the 2732. Copy data from 0000 to 07FF to starting address 0800. I create a new image and save it for future use when I need to burn another 2732 in place of a 2716 with the same code.

Oh yep you're right Bill I did state that bass ackwards. Have you tried or had problems with just creating the double image first and doing 1 burn (sounds like you're saying you do 2 burns - once for each half of the 2732)?
