I have a dedicated MK1 that is 100% factory, and has a mame PC in it. I built it to keep the integrity of the mk1 from the factory and have the ability to play all games through MAME. OK now that that's out of the way, I am looking at this:

Plus the Bezel, and the mounting brackets

However to upgrade from my Arcade Monitor to this the cost is over $ 600 shipped. Are there any others that will display 4:3 aspect and CGA ( low res) ( i don't really need the CGA 100% since I can always throw the Wells back in the cab) that anyone knows of that's a less expensive option than this ? I'm looking at simply upgrading the monitor to utilize other gaming in the cabinet, while at the same time keeping the Wells for the ability to turn it back to stock at any point down the road. Thanks
Chris

funny i was on newegg today and looking at the lcd's. Doesn't the LCD need to be in 4:3 aspect to display the games correctly ? I'd imagine you could easily change that setting in the LCD's menu. Seems nuts to pay 600+ for an lcd i can get for 200

You are using mame, it will letter box for you, also you can run SF VI on it and other recent fighters released for the pc.like MK9!

hmm good info, maybe I'll just go with the one you know works for sure, do you know of a bezel and mounting brackets that will easily work on this ? Thanks BTW

I would say make your own with aluminum L bar from the hardware store and a vesa 100 wall mount. Make the bezel with some black plastic sheets.

Tighe with the shameless asus monitor plug :D

Good stuff and you know it.

Only issue I see with using the LCD monitor that's not specifically designed to be used as an arcade monitor, is on games like MK that display at 53 hertz, you are going to run in to the "crackly" sound that running that game in on 60 hertz monitor causes. We are all familiar with this issue. Pretty sure you will run into this same problem using Mame and a 60 Hertz monitor. I plan on getting the 25" replacement LCD monitor that's on the HAPP site. It's about $600 after you get the mounting brackets too, but it's capable of displaying at 53 Hertz.

Nice to see you Mike. Hope all is well with you. I'm gonna buy that 1 down the road as well since it seems it's the best you can buy. I'm dealing with wedding expenses right now so I'm looking to cut a few corners for a small time frame. I'm gonna go into detail on a video and on here on the good vs the bad on this inexpensive project for those looking to do the same down the road. Stay safe !

MK is 53 Hrz??? What?! Anyway I thought you are playing MK on MAME? You shouldn't have any problems, And you won't need that Arcade VGA card, just use a standard Nvidia or ATI card.

I have a dedicated MK3 cab that has a zenomorph modded 6-1 jamma switcher in it so not really going to play the MK's or KI's since I also will soon have a dedicated KI1 with KI2 in it.

The video library between you two is what got me into mk's, KI has always been my grail. zenomorp you back home in the states yet??? any cool new additions?

Wait till you see the new KI1 I'm gonna restore. It's been a while but I'm excited

I'm excited for you, why you ever got rid of your old ones i don't know (tho you said it's not one of your favs so i guess i do know). you got that from bulldawg right? i wanted to nab it up but shipping it killed it for me, glad it went into good hands can't wait to see the restore. I've actually been working on Instruction cards for KI1/MK1/MK2 ect... (repro's of the originals) let me know if you're interested in the files, tho i haven't done a test run of the quality ect...

Yes from bulldawg and I sold the other games to make room in the gameroom for an area for my fiancee to study for her dental boards. So now I got the room back, I might be interested in a KI1 card.

sweet, nice of you to clear out some games for the fiance too. I'm still finishing up the KI card but pretty close on it.

Glad to hear there's some more restorations on the way I'll be waiting for those youtube videos lol

As for the monior, I would look for the largest CRT VGA you can find. That way the new games like SFIV will look great and the older games like MK will also look great since it's CRT.

Personally I use a NEC 22" CRT in one of my cabs with mame and SFIV (taito X2 dump) and it's awesome. I keep a look out for larger vga's that come up for sale.

I would stay away from LCD if you plan on playing MK on mame
