Well... I've owned a 720 for 10 years or so, and the original monitor I was never able to fix after sinking around 100 bucks into capacitors, flyback, vertical and horizontal deflection transistors, and even a custom video IC... Several years back I threw the 25k5515 away... at the time I was pissed because I couldn't fix it, and it looked like it had some burn in as well...

I can still play the game because I've wired it to a PC VGA adapter, and I currently own 2 monitors that can sync the signal.... I'm sure its not hard to find a computer monitor that will do this because the 2 that I have were just random... Problem is, the one that works the best is only a 17" off brand old school CRT monitor (yuk.. too small)...

My HP w2207 LCD wide screen will sync with it as well, but lacks the capability to hold the correct aspect ratio (it uses the full wide screen... ugh)... the colors on this monitor don't match that great either... the yellow seems very dominant...

Any ideas for a good replacement? I don't need arcade perfection, a good computer LCD will do fine... obviously it will need to be a widescreen as large 4:3 LCD's stop at around 21".... maybe I should try an old 25" TV? any ideas on how best to proceed?

If you think you can stuff a 27" monitor in the cabinet Betson sells a few that will work. Theres a tri-mode Kortek and a Tri-mode Makvision that will sync to that game. You can also get a 24.8" Makvision that will sync to it but I really dont like those CRT's. They just dont look right to me.

thanks for the reply! I was thinking more along the lines of getting a brand new LCD though because they are so much cheaper...

I am seriously considering buying a new wide-screen LCD that barely fits in the case (width wise) and will allow me the option to display the 4:3 image in the center with vertical black side bands on either end... the black cardboard insert will cover up the unused portion of the screen, and if it doesn't I'm sure I can make my own that looks decent...

Most of the LCD's I've looked at on Tiger Direct can support the medium res 25K horizontal sync signal... I just don't know if they will have the option for me to hold 4:3 and center it horizontally... has anyone done this?

I dont think an LCD is the right way to go with this game. If it were running at VGA or better resolution it might look OK. A panel of that size will have a native res of 1920X1080 or better. 720 is running EGA which is 640X400 or something around there. Its really going to look funny on an LCD.

That said, Betson sells a multisync LCD thats a drop in replacement for 25" and 27" CRT's. Its not exactly cheap though, its around $600.00.
