Hi everyone, I just bought my first arcade machine and I was foolish enough to let my brother adjust the brightness to test the monitor and he broke the knob by pushing on it and was wondering if anyone knows where to find this part or even the name of it so I know exactly what I'm looking for. I would greatly appreciate any help you all could give me or some tips on what to do. I'm pretty good with soldering, so I think it could be easily repaired. On the other side of the board there is 3 spots that I would have to solder. Behind the dial there is a metal part attached to it. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks for your help

Hey thanks a lot for the info gregatron. I bought this machine (a Narc machine modded into a Fighters History) for $50 and it was still in decent shape. The monitor was a little wavy and I don't have a PCB to test it. Luckily for me the person who worked on it did a really clean wiring job on it. I've read good and bad things about this monitor. The only thing that scares me is that there is this stuff on the tube. Thanks again for your help.

If you're going to place an order with Bob Roberts (and the monitor is wavy), you might as well pick up a cap kit and replace them all. If it's wavy you might also need to pick up the filter cap (C616 on the board I think). BR carries them all.

If you go ahead and do a cap kit, for pete's sake use a sharpie and mark your connectors going to the sound board. To many people swap the connectors, and blow up thier boards.

Hey thanks a lot everyone for your help and advice. I think the first thing I'm going to do is see if this monitor is worth fixing up. I don't have a game in it, so I don't know exactly how well it works. I was able to tweek the colors and them seem fine, but is there any other way to determine if this thing is on it's way out? I would like to see something other than a gray screen.

Thanks again

In order to properly diagnose the monitor and any problems, you MUST have a signal hooked up to it. Powered up is fine to make sure it...well...powers up, but to determine if the monitor has faults (other than cap issues, I'm sure it has those if the caps are original) it REQUIRES a signal.

If you're over your head, there are people that can help.

Can I fabricate a connector to test this monitor?

Since I need to have a signal to truly test this monitor, is there any way that I can make a cable so I can test it through a PC? I think I should be able to use mame or something, but don't want to spend the money on a converter cable or arcadeVGA, just to test the monitor. If it is bad, I'll just either trade or sell it. Thanks for all the help!!!
