Read some lcd's put in some driver games lately so i thought i'd show my solution. After constant problems with my neotec chassis and spending over $300 trying to solve them, i finally gave up and decided to go the route some others have gone with lcd monitors. For myself personally i wanted a monitor with the glass look offered by some led monitors instead of the lcd. I decided on this 25" led monitor from newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176194&Tpk=hp 2511x
At $199 plus free shipping and no tax, it was about $45 cheaper than my local microcenter. I chose this monitor because it fits perfect corner to corner on the sides of the bezel, and has a glass look to it. I also bought a vga y splitter on ebay for around $3 I had read in another post that you needed to cut wires and make your own cable etc, no you don't actually. FLipped the dip switch on the jamma board for vga resolution, plugged in the y adapter to the video card and ran the second cable to the monitor. That's it. No more neotec monitor problems and a stunning picture. The pics honestly look better than even my phone can produce. The first one is with the flash on just to show you how perfect side to side the monitor fits. I'm going to make a bezel but honestly my arcade is dark and it really is not necessary in my setup if i didn't want to. That's it! $203 and done!

Nice. Can still do adjustments on it vertically and horizontally? I was just thinking because you see how you have gaps on the top and bottom? I was thinking if a bigger viewable area was bought to just adjust the width and vertical to fit where the plastic of the machine is so there is no loss of viewable area. Just a thought.

Do you have to push the power button on the monitor every time you turn on the machine?

Your monitor looks so dinky. Remember the original monitors were 4:3 aspect ratio.

Ya that would really suck...

Monitor comes on automatically! Also Ken you can't go any bigger than 25" if you want to but it up to the blue bezel as it fits perfect side to side. Unfortunately there is no 4/3 aspect monitors that i know of that are 27" to replace the tubes. It's really not that small considering your 2 foot away from the screen.

Just f.y.i they do have a 27" model of this monitor but it's about $150 more than the 25". Also like i mentioned you'd have to set it back farther in the cab. This solution is about $300 cheaper than a new replacement tube.

27" tubes are around $450 to $500 fpr a vga replacement. $300 isn't a bad price for a 25" but you could still save $100 plus shipping on a tube monitor with this solution and less headache down the line. fyi i spent hours and hours trying to get the original 27" neotec monitor fixed, 2 seperte completely built chassis, plus the waiting for repair time and a lot of my time so i'm just throwing out what i'm happy with and how easy it was to do.
I paid around 300 or so for my brand new 25"

I'm guessing that this is for home use? If this is going on the route like that its not going to last long.

I put a 42" plasma in a Pump it Up that had GLASS on the face of the monitor and it still got punched, cracked and broken.

Yes, i can see your point and i would definately have to rig up a protector if it wasn't for me

Sucks that people cant be trusted to not punch screens.

I recall an AMOA show a few years back where Sega was showing Initial D4. The monitors had NO protection on them at all. When I pointed that out to the Sega sales rep for the USA he had the balls to say to me "thats never been a problem here."

I asked him "where is here?" because in the states thats the first thing that gets destroyed. Then I showed him a picture of a Time Crisis 3 in one of our Salt Lake locations with one of those belt stand things that are used to form lines TOSSED through the front of the monitor. If 2"+ of solid glass can get busted up whats going to happen to a dainty LCD?

Sticker price for the ID4?? $14,900 PER SEAT!!!!!

Yeah it was in a bowling alley, the manager was a good guy and freaked out when he saw the guy do it. He got all his info off his drivers license and told him he couldn't come back until he paid for it. The guy was a regular so he payed the money so he'd still have some place to get drunk and gamble all his money away.

super.
ive did this to at least 20 of mine already and they look great, they dont produce the heat the tube monitors too, and are easy to get to any part in the cabs because of their size. they are also easy to repair or throw out if a prob arises.
yes, if you purchase the PC version lcd (not a tv lcd), most all turn on when you apply power to machine as long as you dont depress the "off" button on the lcd on previous game turn off.

also, makvision is the only manufacturer making tube monitors 25 inch or 27/29 inch and they are going to cease as well when their supply of tubes run out. they are not going to order any more tubes. that should end this year early on if it hasn't stopped already.

someone needs to figure out a solution to make lcd work for light gun games that require tube monitors and lcd wont work with them currently.

The way that CRT's and LCD's produce their images are so fundamentally different theres just no way to do this without re writing the games or adding more hardware to the cabs (iR LED boards like Terminator).

How are you protecting those LCD's your putting into the 2049's?

update bigger monitor

Been reading a lot of threads about people with cruis'n games putting in 29" lcd's, so i thought you know what i'm gonna go ahead and upgrade mine to the 27" monitor. I found a refurb hp 2711x led at newegg once again and it was even cheaper than the 25" at $189 with free shipping and no tax. This monitor looks like a mini plasma, it's very black and is glass shiny like a tube! Plus it's about a half inch thick(not that this matters in my case). The colors are amazing! Fills out the monitor space much better and leaves very little gap this time. Also once again it comes on automatically when powered on! I took several pics with the flash on so you can see how it looks, then some with the flash off. Let me know what you think?
