2017 Year End Donation Drive - Donations Matched - Tax Deductable - Fruit Symbols

Please consider further supporting your hobby today and leveraging matching donor funds available!

Earn a 2017 donor badge on the forums and fruit symbols. Donations will be tax deductible eligible as the charity is a 501(c)3 non-profit.

Until the end of the year (5 more days), I'll match all donations to the International Arcade Museum Library made via PayPal donation (no practical limit). In fact I'm not only going to match all donations from December 25 through the end of the year, but also all donations of $10 or more retroactively from December 1, 2017 through the 24th!

The deduction for charitable contributions is unchanged in the tax overhaul. Apparently, you'll still need to itemize to claim it, and that's a much higher bar with the nearly doubled standard deduction. Plus there are other changes coming, particularly if you live in a high-tax state.

As such, there is likely no better time to donate to the International Arcade Museum Library (and to any other charities you care about).

The charity has done a good job of being cash frugal so far and built a little war chest as we look to working on a number of special projects. We really wanted to start one of these projects (a bronze age video game documentation scanning project) earlier this month, but agreed to put it off so that the main site (without use of donor funds) could work to play catch-up on the main game encyclopedia.
See: https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=419046

When this process is done, the charity will likely have use of this contractor (and/or others) to focus on its projects. The Library has over $100,000 in reserves at the moment, so there are a lot of great possibilities.

Donations can be made (and more information is available) on this page: http://library.arcade-museum.com/

We look forward to a great 2018.

Thank you, and Happy Holidays,

Greg

Short Answer:

Currently, benefits are primarily all additive, and not yearly based. Forum recognition and benefits are based on total (ever) contributions, not current year -- except that it gives you credit for each and every year in which you donate. As such, if you are interested in donating repeatedly, I'd recommend giving at least $1 (preferably more :)) each year you can.

Longer Answer:

While we reserve the right to change, add, remove, or cancel all benefits, the reality is that they have been pretty stable over the years. At some point we would like to reward and recognize current year donations as almost all non-profit charities do, but even then we won't ignore total all time contribution levels. The earliest this is likely to begin to happen is after the charity has new successes to tout (ie: mid to late next year).

We have some exhibit projects we are exploring. Upon their success, we will explore the viability of a more permanently open public offering. If and when we get to that point, I imagine many aspects of a donor program would be reconsidered. Such a permanent offering, if it comes, is a ways (years not months) down the road however.

For the Dec 1 to Dec 24 matching, there were 30 donations of >= $10, for a total of $643.11 (including a hefty $251 donation on 12/22).

Donations 12/25 to date are $221.66:

12/25/2017 15
12/25/2017 10
12/25/2017 5
12/26/2017 2
12/26/2017 1
12/26/2017 100
12/26/2017 10
12/26/2017 20
12/26/2017 6.66
12/26/2017 50
12/27/2017 2

So the amount (so far) I'm going to donate this weekend is up to $864.77.

Thanks for your support.

Cool. I donated earlier this month before this was announced. I didn't get a fruit (I haven't gotten up to the next level yet!) but my little years did update, so I'm happy. :D

Is there a PayPal option to donate?? I only saw credit card options, unless I missed it

The best way is to make sure you are logged onto the main site, and go to the Library: http://library.arcade-museum.com/

When you click on the donate button it takes you to PayPal. Yes it has credit card symbols on the main page. Once you get to PayPal you can either log in or pay with a credit card via PayPal without having to set up an account.

Sent a little in to keep my trend going. 3 years now. I would love to see some of the machines, if I had the opportunity in the future sometime. As a home console collector, the Atari prototype stuff really interests me as well. Rarest thing I have is a Korean Super Comboy. I'm not high-end enough to have any prototype stuff, heh.

Just donated $20. Thanks for all you do, Greg.

Snuck it in at the last moment, better late than never, right? Looking forward to the future here!

In addition to the $643.11 in donations from 12/1 through 12/24, we are currently up to 859.66 in 12/25 to 12/31 donations that I'll be matching, for a total so far of $1,502.77.

There were 2 more donations on 12/31 besides the list above, one for $100, and one for $10. So the total 12/25/17 through 12/31/17 added up to $969.66. With the $643.11 in pre-12/25/17 matching, it adds up to $1,612.77. I'll contribute that much in matching funds this week.

Thanks to everyone for their support... and Happy New Year!
