2011: The Year of "Mad Planets"???

The Gottleib games from that era DEFINITELY have great analog audio effects. Gotta love the control scheme also. It's sort of like Robotron with Tron controls, except your firing directions are knob controlled for extra precision (not just 8 directions like with a joystick). I spent a LOT of time refurbishing mine, although I wouldn't consider it a "restoration", and I also have one of the original NOS Mad Planets posters framed and hanging in the entry stairs as you head into the game room.

Im pretty sure that would regret selling it. It's just too unique and i'm pretty sure that i probably would have a REALLY hard time finding another one. This is the ONLY one that I have seen since the ONLY time I played an example at a specialty arcade in another city. There was NEVER one of them on location here in my home town, and I'm pretty certain that there weren't very many of these games made in the first place...

It's cyclical. One guy mentions buying or wanting a somewhat obscure machine, another responds positively, and suddenly that machine is the "darling" of the current era.

I'll take it a step further and say that specifically when Jow or Phet decides to pursue a game many people tend to follow and start to want it. I believe Phet started the mad planets trend as well as others. Satan's hollow comes to mind. IIRC Jow was responsible for the red tent, recent zoo keeper trend, nba jam, a short extra boost to the steady robotron demand, DK 3, track and field/hyper sports, playchoice 10, punch out. I'm sure there were more but those are the ones I recall.

Yes, I remember Phet started the Tut trend as well. I can't complain about that one, though. It helped me get rid of my Tut...

Nah, there's always been a Zookeeper trend... Especially for Taito fans! Just harder and harder to find a cab....

yes but it was brought back to the forefront once again thanks to Jow wanting one. You use to occasionally see a board set for sale. Even a non working one. Now everything zoo keeper gets snapped up quick and people are even hanging on to non working boards that they don't plan to fix just because they fear if they let them go they will not get another. Yes makes no sense but I've been looking for a board set. Even a non working one and can't convince even the people with multiple non working board sets to let one go. I've seen this before. In time ZK parts will show up a bit more and people will have less interest.
