2011 restoration competition

There's a Pac man I'm going to be getting that's in pretty rough shape, seems to be a good project for this...

Need an eventual sticky with a clear set of rules. Stuff to think about, like-

Obviously, hiring out a restoration then taking pics of it shouldn't count, but..what if someone was doing a pinball restoration and hired out the playfield touchups, or just the clear coat, or,....

Multiple submissions/person, or just one in each category.

I'm game for Gold, Silver, Bronze. A best pinball restoration could also be included.
This is gonna be a blast. What does everyone think?

Sounds Great :)

Are we doing a new thread to keep it easier to follow?

Maybe on page 1 we list each project, so the OP can edit as we go ?? :)

I'm not against multiple entries.
I'm not against multiples either, but so far we are a little divided about it.
About the Gold-Silver-Bronze.
How about:
Gold-best tear down and complete restoration of a committed game.
Silver-best restoration of a game that is a conversion restored back to original.
Bronze-best restoration where it only needs minor repairs re: capkit, repair ps, touch up cabinet etc...
Pinball- Best overall restoration that is documented in 2011.

You set the rules it's your idea

Whatever goes :)

We should be able to send boards & monitor chassis away from repair if we are not comfortable doing them or have no way of testing.

Yes, so each person has one entry in the new thread, good idea :)

Yes this is what I was talking about before. If this is a contest, it needs to be fair, 1 entry per person to keep a level playing field (unless Klover is entered in different categories like upright, cocktail, redemption, pinball, 1 per category). Nobody should have a handicap over anyone else. Pick one, and decide. Simple. Imagine how stupid it would be if majority of people had only 1 game to restore, but since another Klover had 5 games to restore, he wound up winning Gold Silver and Bronze. Boring, stupid and pointless contest if that were the case IMO. Not to mention I think most people with only one game to restore would be less motivated to win after finding out someone entering 5 machines with 5 chances to win.

I agree. If we all had to do every single repair to enter the contest then only Hudson Arcade and Dokert would be eligible for this contest. That's like tooth and nail stuff. We need to farm out some work. Imagine having to paint, or reproduce your own side art just for this contest :D

How about we restore & document as many games as we want, come Dec 1/11, each participant decides which game of theirs to enter contest if they restored more than one.
Seeing the majority of us are more into video games they can also enter both the pinball & video restoration.
Should we post our progress in the "restoration showcase" forum?
Thoughts?

I say why not allow them to restore as many as they want for the contest, but only allow them to win once.

This would help those who get into a restore, get stuck because they can't find a part, etc...

What ever we decide, the rules should be spelled out before we even begin to avoid confusion down the road.

You mean show restoration progress of all multiple games, but ultimately choose the best one to enter by Dec 1?

The restoration showcase would be best, technically.

Exactly

"Keep it simple. I don't like reading, much less following rules" as quoted by jphillips5, I couldn't agree more. Which means throw away your manuals and schematics. lol

I'll try and piece the rules we have so far tomorrow evening.
Anyone else have any rules or concerns they can think of? Post em if you got um:)
