2011 restoration competition

Personally I think it should be 1 game, and one game only to level the playing field. Pick your best one to restore for the contests so there isnt multiple chances to win for one particular person. That would be like a baseball player getting a freebee of 10 strikes and 20 balls to make it on base. 1 Machine to enter would be fair, just pick your favorite you could win with. Everybody who's interested in this contest can do 1, I don't know about 1+.

I'd be fine with that. One thread per person, entered in 2011, note it as a submission in the thread title. I'll still try to post multiple restoration threads in 2011.

My Submission: Devastators

I'll be submitting my future Devastators for this contest. Ive polled about it recently for people to help me choose a concept, so I think it will be time to get it going.

I havent even touched it yet (been sitting in storage for a while since I picked it up from a "get it the hell out of my basement sale") and I'll post pics of it's current condition. Right now it's a Konami Contra cab converted to Mame with mold, cobwebs, dust, and a swiss cheesed control panel. I dont know if the monitor even works.

Ok, I'm in.

I've got a Monaco GP Mini that needs a complete overhaul...

Should be able to finish it in 11 months :D

Hard part is going to be the lack of Art... :(

Would my space invaders qualify for 2011? I've only worked on the base of it so far... primarily because of the two other projects Ive got going and the weather has been an issue..

I would personally have no objection, your thread was started mid Dec. Just means the rest of us are 2 weeks behind.

I think it should be any project finished in 2011. Why penalize people who already started or a project that potentially takes more than a year to finish.

...so YES, I would count your SI.

I agree with this completely.

Great idea
Are we ready to go, or will it be a new thread? :)

I will enter my Battlezone, monitor doesn't work, no game sounds

Before (as it is now)

I dont plan on any full restores til later this year, if at all. And when my hard drive crashed this spring I lost a ton of pics. Now I have HD backup.

Im not submitting this to the contest because its 3 years old. But this is a restoration I did for Mary J Blige. Turns out the cabinet was so trashed that I decided to build a new one and start all over. Hard to believe what NOS parts can cost for even a low dollar game when there are no high quality repros out there.

I think I am gonna submit my Space Invaders Deluxe. My Gorf was started in November, my Joust was started in 2008. I have only fixed the fraying plywood and cleaned the inside of the SID out at this point. Time for a clean up of the shop and a full tear-down of this machine.

And if that one turns out like crap, I'm submitting my Rockola Eyes.

I've got a Centipede that I'm working on. Question is, will it be done by the end of the year!

Cool idea. :) Hopefully this thread will inspire me to take on the project that I've been meaning too for a while. I've got a few restorations under my belt now (Simpsons and Q*Bert) so hopefully I can make this one look pretty. Here's my Ms. Pac-Man in its current state. The biggest problem is the hole on the front (probably where a lock bar was ripped off or something)...I have an idea on how to deal with it, but I'm not certain yet. I'm thinking cut the area cleanly so I can make a patch close to the same size and seal any gaps along the edge with bondo. The other idea I had was to use bondo to fill it, but I think a plywood patch would be better overall. The other major carpentry task will be replacing the bottom piece. It's not in the best shape and if I'm really restoring this thing, it needs to be replaced.

Maybe it's time to post an official list now of name, machine, an A-F current conditon rating, and when the resto started/will be started. Then only the people entering the contest could post before/during/final pics.

Should we have the top 3 restorations? Gold, Silver and Bronze :D

How about categories or classes? Such as Video Game vs Pinball?

Are there enough pinball restorations on here? I could submit a pinball project that could be complete in 2011. I have a thread on coinopspace, but still haven't finished the project.

I'm game for Gold, Silver, Bronze. A best pinball restoration could also be included.
This is gonna be a blast. What does everyone think?
