After looking at the 2010 restoration thread it gave me some motivation to start working on restoring my games that need it. Just for fun, why don't we have a friendly competition among the group for 2011. Whoever has the best restoration job voted by the group will get a trophy donated by me to keep for a year then sent it to the next year winner etc, etc...
Rules:
Post a picture of your game before restoration on this thread.
Update with pictures monthly, quarterly. You guys decide.
Cut off December 1, 2011 then we all decide who we like best by Dec 15th, 2011.

Let me know what you guys think & rules that should be added.

Here is the list of games submitted on this thread:
Gold:
Rampage - Phetishboy
Nintendo PC10 - Phetishboy

Oh boy, this sounds great, but which project do I choose? I am almost done with GORF, close on my Joust, but I would suspect those would be 2010 restorations, 2011 completions. Gotta choose one I've never seen documented here before, and I have to start it this year. Hmmmmmmm.

This idea has been kicked around here before but the picture limit and crap you have to go through to get em here keeps me from doing it.

Need an established, clear set of rules. No limit on how many one person can submit, is there? I think it should be anything goes, as long as the project is started in 2011

I agree with what you said, no limit to submit number of games as long as project(s) was started in 2011.
I also feel we should do total restorations, not just apply sideart and a capkit and call it good.
Anymore guidelines you guys can think of?
I'm thinking Mappy, Atari Football, Robotron & Cheyenne for my projects.

I think the restore should be fully posted here and not linked to another site. Also, I think the 4 pic limit needs to be looked at by the mods. No reason to have it.

What's the big deal with the pic limit? Just do multiple posts? Is there something I'm missing?

My opinion is restoration should start in 2011. We could make exceptions if you started disassembling game in Dec/10. Thoughts?

Actually......although I stated it should be started in 2011, who's to really know. The contest should ideally be about the thread, the information presented, the techniques presented, what could be learned, and the reference photos.

I have a couple of projects that I started in 2010, but either just did a bit of dis assembly and a few pictures, or got about halfway. Either way, I haven't started a thread for those. I think any new restoration THREAD started in 2011 should be part of any contest.

Personally I think it should be 1 game, and one game only to level the playing field. Pick your best one to restore for the contests so there isnt multiple chances to win for one particular person. That would be like a baseball player getting a freebee of 10 strikes and 20 balls to make it on base. 1 Machine to enter would be fair, just pick your favorite you could win with. Everybody who's interested in this contest can do 1, I don't know about 1+.
