I'm few days early :)

I just did one Flat od seeds with:

18 Mr Stripey Tomatoes
18 Yellow Pear Tomatoes
18 Zucchini (wrongs seeds)
18 Cucumbers

Did this last night. Right now 1 Pear Tomatoe is starting a sprout. I'm going to have these as dedicated house plants. Zucchini seeds I grabbed by mistake. That is going to be fun if all 18 seeds sprout :( I still have 2 months before I do my mass trays of seeds for actual planting.

Anyone else doing anything for indoors?

Kevin

I'll probably get some pumpkin seeds going along with sweet peppers, maybe a watermelon or three and I still have some live tomatoes that I could take some cuttings from and nurse through the next couple months to be ready for the garden. This year was pretty bunk for the garden. It was overcast for nearly the entire summer and not very warm in general so I got about half the harvest that I got the year before. Hoping 2010 is a good year for No. Cal. gardening. ;)

We don't start anything indoors, so won't get going on the garden until ~March probably.

I just had a brilliant idea. Someone needs to take a trashed or lame-o cocktail cab and make a mini greenhouse out of it.

Just kill 17 of the Zucchinis now. You could feed a small town with 18 Zucchini plants.

Although I do like steamed Zucchini.
And if you cut them thin, dip in egg and milk, roll in soda cracker crumbs and fry them they are good too.
And Zucchini bread rocks when warm with lots of butter.

Steam Zucchini and bread is what we do with ours. I was not planning on doing zucchini plants in the house, but wtf.. I'll give it a try :) I did do 125+ corn before in the house till they got 6-8", then went outside. Those were good corn plants that year. I am going to do a honeydew in the house. They grow great indoors. I have the pot by the window facing the west and let the vines go up/down the curtain rod.

I don't plant a garden but I do plant my flowerbeds every year and the are the prettiest on the block every year! (Thanks to Miracle Grow, the one in the bottle that hooks up to your hose, but that stays between us) Oh I can't wait to see my Green grass again!!!!

Here is what my garden looked like last year:

Anyone know a good calcium additive for soil? My tomatoes are all spiltting before ripe and I'm getting a lot of rot loss. I was told that adding calcium to the soild may help. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks GRK! I'm assuming its safe to use with agricultural products?

Yes.. here's proof:

Calcitic lime, also called aglime, has a neutralizing value between 85-100 percent. In addition to neutralizing soil acidity, calcitic limestone supplies calcium, an essential element for plant growth.

I know few around me use egg shells around the plants (don't know why). I was also told taking nails that get bent is good to stick in the ground too.

Right now, Cucumber plants are 3". Tomatoe plants 4" (very skinny still). Zuccini seeds.. nothing. I think those are a bad batch. Soon as these plants get to healthy stage or die, I'll be starting some more.
