20 people staying over for the weekend...all games worked until today.

So I had everything working. Been playing games all week after finally unloading project games and cleaning up the game room. Housing a bunch of teenage boys for the weekend for a church event and thinking things are all good. So this morning I go fire everything up to ensure all is well but now games have issues. Errrrrrr.

First up, Star Wars....the controls have gone all sloppy on me. Never had this happen before. Maybe need a yoke rebuild kit if they even still make those. I don't know. It's playable but not nearly as nice as it could be.

Next....The newly built ArcadeSD cab erased all my high-scores. And won't save them now. Going to refresh the firmware and see if it helps.

Finally, and worst of all is Tempest. It's been dead for a while and finally traded for a working board set which seemed to be fine. But never ran it for very long before. After a bit you are greeted with this: Video link: http://vimeo.com/31271677

Why couldn't all this have happened last week when I still had some time?

It's Murphy's Law. :D

"Anything that can go wrong will go wrong"

The Tyranix95 observation:

Murphey's Law can occur only:

1. during a critical stage in the event; or,

2. during the final few moments of the event.

I hope you get your games fixed in time.

you let 20 teenagers play them.. thats wherr you went wrong..:)

They haven't come over yet!

Got the Tempest working. I had another board set that had issues but was able to combine two of the boards into one good working set so I think I'm good to go there. Anyone want to buy a Tempest board set with video issues?

And the ArcadeSD game is actually saving high scores a lot of games. Apparently not for Millipede any more. After the first firmware update I believe it was saving scores. But after the second one it's not. What a drag.

Just going to have to live with sloppy Star Wars I guess.

Sorry John, I wish you would have taken the other board now. That was the one that I wasn't worried about though. If it has any other issues, let me know. I have a non working boardset we can use to swap stuff from. Maybe with parts from that one, you can get the second board working too. If you want to try it, let me know and I will send it to you. I had some of those boardgame priority mail boxes delivered last week, so I should be able to ship it quick. If your now working boardset comes up with more issues, let me know, and we can swap for this one. I haven't done a long test on this one either though, so maybe I should do that.

PS: I need to figure out how to reset the high scores. This one has over 400k, and I am not anywhere near that level. It took forever for me to break 100k. :) Now there is a video showing how much I suck at Tempest. lol

Don't worry about it Paul. I picked the board at random and never felt gypped or anything. It's just one of those things. It appears that I have a working board set so I'm content!

And for the record....I suck at Tempest also.

Everything worked out....here's some pics. They seemed to all have a great time. I'm especially pleased that Tempest was up and running because, although these guys had NEVER heard of Tempest, they just went crazy and looooved that game. Most of them played it as a 2-player-at-once deal but it was great watching the laugh and figure out how it works.

Yeah, they did have fun. Another group of kids is coming over today for a while and then the original group of 20 is coming back to stay the night again before they head back home to Reno and Fairfield tomorrow. Here's a few more pics.

The two guys in the last one below just couldn't get enough of the Tempest. They kept laughing and just saying how awesome the game is over and over. Neat to see this kind of enthusiasm among the X-Box crowd.

Anyone want to take a guess at which were the least popular of the games last night? There's were really two but one of them won by a longshot!

Here's more pics...the last of them.

That's awesome the kids enjoying the games like that. Sometimes I think todays games are overly complicated. Anyone can walk up to a Tempest and start playing it, but you can't pick up a controller and play a game like Call of Duty without a huge learning curve.

If you could just hear how excited they were you might change your mind. This is what it's all about!
I'm careful when I have kids playing my games, but yeah, I get a lot out of just sharing them with people too. :) Looks like the kids had a great time and it just goes to show that a good game can be timeless.

Edit: I'll take a guess and say Black Widow was the least played game. I own one and it's fun, but I would bet it might be tougher to win kids over than Tempest.

It's one of the top ten laws of arcades/pins. When you most need them to work, they will break.

Cool story otherwise.

My bet for the two least played are the foosball and hockey in the center of the room.
