$20 each Galaga, Baby Pac-Man and PC10 Dual Monitor in Schenectady, NY.
So I'm at work yesterday and a friend that sits next to me who's hours are earlier than mine (we have flex hours) calls me on his way home to tell me he's about 10 minutes from work and sees 3 arcade games sitting by the side of the road and that I might want to check them out on my way home. I said "WHAT! Three arcade games by the side of the road? I'm THERE!" So I thank him hang up and shoot over there.
I get there (wishing I had my van and a camera) and sure enough there were three arcade games sitting side by side near the road with signs on each saying FREE! I'm like HOLY SHIT! There was a Galaga, Baby Pac-Man and a PC 10 Dual Monitor.
There were a couple guys walking around them and I'm like CRAP I'm too late. A guy comes out of the building and I say to him "free, really?" and he says "first come first serve but you might be too late because I think these guys are going to take them". I said well if they don't take them all (which they couldn't because they didn't have a big enough vehicle) I would be willing to throw you a few bucks to secure the Baby Pac-Man. He tells me to follow him out to the games. So we walk over and he tells the guys that they can take everything but the Baby Pac-Man. They start giving him a hard time saying that they wanted that game.
This is where is gets CRAZY! All of a sudden the guy starts yelling at them to get the f**k off his property. They are shocked as well as myself. He just keeps yelling "GET THE F**K OFF MY PROPERTY!" So they get in their vehicle and leave. I'm like holy crap this guy is nuts! Once they leave he says "Ok where were we?"
At that point I simply offer $20 each for all three games since it was now clear that I was the only guy left standing and I certainly didn't think I should consider them free anymore after what just happened. He says fine and asks me if I'm interested in a pinball? I said "pinball? sure!" He takes me inside and there is a F-14 Tomcat pinball. I ask how much and he says $100. I said "sold!"
The only problem was he expected me to take them right then and there. I told him I had to go home and get my van. He said that he wasn't going to move them back inside and it was up to me to deal with it. I told him there was no way I could go 35 minutes home and come back and expect the games to still be there. I mean c'mon we are talking about Schenectady, NY here. After some convincing he said okay and I helped him put them back inside and I picked them up this morning.
I don't have any pics yet but hopefully can get some taken and post them. They are now in my storage unit and it's a pain to move things around in there to take pics. Anyway, they all look pretty good from the outside but the insides need some serious cleaning from sitting so long. I doubt they work but you never know. I'll have Ian (retrohacker) look them over.
So don't think that lucky situations like this can't happen to you because I always thought that myself and sure enough it finally did happen!
