Well as you know, I finally finished my Mario almost 2 weeks ago and moved her into the game room:

Breathed a sigh of relief and thought, what can I follow that up with and still feel good about myself? Hows about finally finishing old DK3. Well OK then:

I would like to thank Rich for the red vinyl, Deadly for keeping an eye out for a bezel for me and Joemagiera for my NOS DK3 side art. Other than a few dryish edges and a dry seam where the backing seam was for all these years, it went onto the cab without a hitch. I applied it using the wet method with the cab standing up. I was surprised to see it actually has metallic flake inks, vs. just solid colored inks. Pretty sweet:

I actually had to strip the repro side art from the cab that I had originally applied. I found out it was too small AFTER installation. In doing so, I destroyed one side of the vinyl and had to order another panel and install that first.

Big difference, and I am happy I went thru with the renovation.

DKJR is next. Then my PC-10, then my DK, then I pick up an R-Type, then I finally look for a Punch Out. Ayiyi. Thanks for the props boys. Now, what can I use to take the cloudiness out of my tinted plexi bezel?

Brilliant! (insert beer reference here...)

Beautiful work yet again, Phet. So many games(to restore), so little time... :D

Looks great Phet. I think I say that on here like once every few weeks. Your a restoring machine. How thin is the vinyl? Did you have to do major hole filling session so it wouldnt show through?

Try Novus 1, 2, and 3.

I should be getting a dedicated PC-10 single next weekend and have also been thinking about the R-Type. Not really sure about that one. Should we get Killer Instincts too??? :) Hmmmm.....

Oh yeah, your cross bar looks naked:

Phet - Very professional job as always. If you are looking to purchase an R-Type, I believe Flynn (Green Bay) has one for sale. Check the recent "For Sale" threads.

Man, that looks fantastic. Do you apply vinyl to the front as well as the sides? It seems like the sides would be pretty straight forward, but the front would be a pain in the ass. If you did, how do you trim it? I'm considering using vinyl on my DK.

Also, it looks fantastic.

Where do you get Novus 1-2-3? I already have your DK3 instr. decal, I just haven't applied it yet (cuz I can't find it. That's the 3rd part I've lost in as many weeks.)

Jim, funny you should mention Flynn's R-Type, very funny indeed.

Hey Descrentl, the vinyl is verrrry thin. In fact, when moving my Mario into the basement, I rubbed/burnt/tore a 1/8 X 2" piece of vinyl on the the back edge with the ratchet strap from my dolly. It is fixable and not that noticeable, but it still shows how thin and really weak this vinyl is compared to paint or laminate. I also created a crinkle/ridge in one section on the DK3 by trying to burnish a bubble out with a rubber squeegie. The heat and friction caused the vinyl to thin out and bunch up. The finished vinyl still looks better than an orange peel paint job, but it isn't an all-protective shell that's impervious to damage by any means.

Thanks Jow, Todd, and Greg. I feel like I am in the Ninty Zone right now. Might as well go with it.

You remove the 3 front pieces (kickplate, speaker grill, connecting soffet piece), disassemble them and restore each separately. Then vinyl and trim them. Then reassemble and reinstall them with #6x1" flat head sheet metal screws and a little glue.

nice work, were'd the Mario side art come from?

Bought it from Brentradio who said he got it from arcadeshop, which, if true, means they sell the 'B quality artwork that PhoenixArcade sells. You can see the uneven cut on the bottom edge of the sideart here:

The other side is miscut on the back edge.
