So I get bored at work sometimes and love reading and learning about pinball. Finally checked out RGP and saw some guy was having a strange issue with his Bride of Pinbot with the L-7 ROMs and it was giving him 3 ball multiball, a bug. Turns out it was because he did not do a factory reset or the jumpers were not set correctly. Anyways..

So I rushed home to see what ROM I had and I am at L-3. So 1st question is about ROMs (well multiple questions ;) )

ROMs
1. is there any info out there on what has been changed in ROM versions?
2. Any tips on where to get new written to EPROMS? Would rather just get new ones than send mine in for a rewrite.
3. and is it worth it? I am guessing so since I am 4 revisions back.

Remote Battery
I picked up a couple of the radio shack black plastic 4 battery holders for my two pins.
1. is a 1N4001 diode good enough for the 4th battery connection?
2. any way to not lose my high scores?
3. any tips for a newb so I do not make a dumb mistake?

The BoP L7 roms have other bugs as well, such as resetting the machine if you hit the billionaires club. If you can get the L6 ROM's, those are the recommended ones.

As long as you wire it in correctly, the 1N4001 is fine in place of the 4th battery. If you use aligator clips to connect the remote holder to the original, you can get away with saving the scores. But if you pull the board to solder in the remote holder, it's going to be tricky to do (possible, but tricky.... it's all in the sequence). Another option is just to use Lithium AA's instead of alkalines, and don't mess with the holder at all. Lithiums don't leak like alkalines do, so you don't have to worry about the corrosion problems.

I will get the L-6 then. Thanks. Resetting with the billion club? That is lame as heck. I think I saw that on RGP threads.

Not too worried about saving high scores really. But I noticed corrosion on a battery holder and want that taken care of ASAP.

Thanks.

Yep, screw saving the scores, do the new holder ASAP.

so I headed to the shack and replaced the battery holder with a remote one. Unfortunately I smooshed the top of a 8.0 mhz crystal using the wrong cutters to remove the old battery holder.

Part number is 5520-10438-00
X2 is how it is refered to in the manual page 74

I am thinking this is what I need

Here is a pic. I just pinched the top corner. It should be replaced right?

May or may not need replacing...... all depends on what happened to the quartz inside.
I'd replace it either way though, but I'm just picky like that and would hate looking at it.

Got some bits from Ed of Great Plains Electronics. Did not notice he is 60 miles away with the first order.

Got the new crystal in and the remote battery is working good.

Can someone point me to the right place to pick up some new ROMs?

They only have L-7 :(

Got a PM from a KLOVer to burn the L-6 and I think I am going to take that offer.

Thanks for the reply though.

Hey man, always worth replacing the battery holder. I change my batteries in all my machines every year and my T2 got some damage. I buy all of my electronics from www.jameco.com or from great plains. I made the mistake of going to great plains once, FYI its a house so you still have to order mail despite distance. Never the less great guy and great service.

I would recommend p/n 216144 (has a cover)or 216136

These are 3 batteries and no need for additional components. I also buy molex connectors, pins, wire, sipp strips, sockets and cpu's there. Might be worth an order, just FYI.

I was down in Lincoln Yesterday, used your pinball map!!!
