I've always liked watching your vids on removing paint from these 90's JAMMA cabs and I'm looking forward to see how these turn out! I uncovered a pretty good MK1 cab last November.

This side had the worst of scratches in the art, but it is way better than the one I had before that was super faded.

Nice job on your MK2 cab, MrBungle!

I've also liked the Asus monitor idea. I'm really thinking of doing that with my SF2 cab, because I honestly do not like old arcade Monitors. The issue I'm having is finding a good size. Will have to get a new Bezel art maybe as well.

Thanks guys, I stripped the front panel today to test how heavy the black is on there. To say the least it was a bitch. The white in the decals seems to soften and absorb the black paint where as the colors just shed it right off. I'm kinda torn on stripping the sides at this point.......However I might just bite the bullet and do it.

The white parts do soften and you have to be really careful. Use a plastic scraper...not metal. When I did mine I did 2 coats of Citristrip @ 15 minutes each, then the excess paint cleaned off the white parts with a magic eraser soaked in concentrated simple green.

Definitely don't let it sit in the sun when you do it that will keep it from drying to fast, definitely use a plastic scraper. I used denatured alcohol to clean the scraper when they got bad and also to remove the last lil bits of black that remained on my nba jam control panel. The mosenbockers (butchered the spelling i'm sure) graffiti remover #4 also helps, but the denatured alcohol worked wonders

Well i gave it my best shot today and it turned out terrible, probably the worst results of all the times i have stripped cabinets. I just finished repainting the side black. So on to a new project. Thanks for the replies anyways.

agreed what happened?

you were going to put different side art on that one anyways right? so it's not a complete loss.

Dang too bad this one didn't work, but at least you've got the other minty cab. I'm sure the type of paint they used plays into it, but I had a bit of trouble with the white areas of my MK1 cab too. I used more elbow grease and water on some of the stubborn white areas, but their paint job was so crappy that probably made it easier.
