"2 million" in console game inventory destroyed due to hurricane ian

Michigan can't sell to California. They already have a contract with Nestle!
Nestle pays $200 a year to pump over 1.1 million gallons per day from Michigan.
And their permit limit is 400 million gallons. Per day.

CAN CALIFORNIA MATCH WHAT NESTLE IS PAYING US?
CAN CALIFORNIA BEAT IT?
WILL THEY?

We shall see.......

PS. $200 is roughly 373 bottles of pure life = 49.25 gallons. The rest of the 400+ million gallons is profit.

So...
$1.97 billion return on a $200 investment.
It's pretty good I guess.
The Great Lakes are quite a resource really.

I think this is just one of those situations where your average person doesn't "get" how easy it is for this to happen to somebody. As an attorney I work frequently with and against insurance companies. If a pipe bursts or something like that then you're typically covered but flooding is another story. Natural disasters have their own challenges. The insurance lobby is powerful and if there is an argument not to pay then you can be in for an uphill battle.

Also, people may not appreciate what it's like being in an area affected by hurricanes. Yes, in theory, you take all belongings and head for the hills. In reality, that's usually not feasible.

It's one of those scenarios where, on the surface, it looks like an easily avoidable situation but in reality it's not that clear cut. Hindsight is 20/20 yada yada yada.

With all of the above being said, I also feel bad for anyone who calls arcade games "arcades". Can you imagine?
^^^This^^^ to a tee... so lets stop with the hilarious "he should have had insurance" bs. Bottom line is in any state you can not truly insure yourself for that states most popular known disaster(s), its financially impossible. They trick you like that. What they will sell you is some insurance that gives you a piece of mind, but in reality does nothing for you in the end.

Thats why I live in California , the only thing we worry about is earthquakes and Godzilla attacking .
Yes sirrrrrr ! BUT tell the truth, we are paying a premium for this awesome weather and no poisonous weirdo wildlife and no extreme worrisome disasters.

Can we at least change the title of this thread to reflect what it really is?

Not arcade, but video game consoles and games.

It looks like a disaster for our hobby, but really it's not.
Well IMO its a very close relative to our hobby. And one I support and am into myself. And everyone should be, as its as much a part of "gaming" as arcades are. They came out in 1977 (Atari 2600 anyway). Thats pretty much before my era even (Well I was 4). And the one that finally sealed the deal was in 1985 (NES). Thats all right along the lines of arcade family IMO. So it is worth mentioning IMO and giving thought to a fellow brother of the hobby. In the end, its all about "gaming with visuals on a screen" IMO. Not separating that into sub genres and making us seem smaller.

Yea, but if people keep voting the way they ignorantly think is best, they will soon find themselves mandatorily having to give that water up to immigrants, people of color and the "less fortunate" first, whites and natural born Americans second. lol Soon they will even write a tricky bill that makes it so those lakes have to be funneled to less fortunate countries first. Starve out the unimportant Americans by Americans way of thought. What a great leadership ! And they present it in a way that dumb people actually go for it cause "its what's right", "I wanna help". Their deep inner guilt from their actions long in the past (civil war, Native American fiasco, slavery, etc..) surface, and they trying to make up for it cause they got something to prove to cleanse their past.

Either way, one thing for positive sure... Michigan people won't get any. LOL

I don't think they're close at all. The home versions of the real games are terrible for the most part. Console games don't include the cool controls, cabinets, and tinkering aspect of arcade game collecting either. Do people restore console games in any way? I personally wouldn't shed a tear if every 2600 cartridge and console were destroyed.

Yes. Quite meticulously.

I personally wouldn't shed a tear if every 2600 cartridge and console were destroyed.

YOU SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!! I don't care if you care. That's your right and I respect your opinion.
😯But if you say it out loud like that, it could actually happen! 😯

For the sake of our collecting hobby and the varied branches of it, and for the sake of the English language, and for posterity in general, I'll just leave some notes below.

An "arcade" is not a piece of equipment. It is a space, usually dedicated to storing or exhibiting "arcade games". It can be a public space or private.
An "arcade game" is an entertainment device, usually intended for use in a commercial setting. They tend to be large and bulky. They sometimes make use of video displays, but not always.
A "video game" is an entertainment device that makes use of a video display.
A "home video game system" or "home console" or simply "console" is a video game that is intended for non-commercial use. E.g. in the home. They are typically much smaller than arcade games. Such that a single small child (or nerd) can easily carry them from place to place.

A "console" is not an "arcade game". They are completely different entities. They should both be respected. As should their collectors. But a console should never be confused with an arcade game. NEVER.

If it does so be it! I knew those games were crap BITD but that's all we had. They can't be close to rare either except for maybe certain cartridges. But go have your fun.

All Atari stuff will be rare AF...if you destroy them all. :p

Yeah. The 2600 games suck by and large. But many of them are EXCELLENT and hold up to this day. And the modern homebrews have some gems too.

Fun is fun. And sucky is sucky. And opinions on fun vs. sucky vary widely. You can't get around that.
You think 2600's suck. I think Robotron sucks. Sue me. Some people actually liked the Robocop remake. They suck.

I've never heard anyone say Robotron sucks. I don't think that opinion is valid. Have you played the actual arcade version of Robotron?

Robotron sucks harder than a 7AMP Kirby. Miserable game. DON'T change my mind :)

I'd rather play the 2600 version of Pac Man.

Somehow, I'm in your quote. Go figure.
And now I'm out.
I understand your feeling, but if you look at the facts, Nintendo systems really were the nail in the coffin of the arcade business. They offered better graphics (arguable, but much better than the Atari 2600 in any case) than you could get at arcades back in the day. Parents bought the system, Nintendo (and others) put out quality games, and the foot traffic in arcades faded away.

So consider that. Yes, a close cousin, but also a silent but deadly killer of the arcades we all knew and loved,

Thems fighting words.

I'll see you at high noon. Bring your Nerf gun. We'll battle until the death.

Wait a second....with Nerf guns that could take a while.

We'll battle until gas prices go down....

Wait a minute - not likely to happen anytime soon.

Okay, just accept my heartfelt scorn for your comment, and we'll call it even.

Yes, mortal enemies of arcade games in many ways. You can't have it both ways.

Whoa , this dude is bustn' out the vacuum metaphors !!!!!!!!!! Those should only be used as a last resort .

And he says Robotron is a bad game !!

When that happens I know its time to walk away.......this dude is crazy & dangerous !!!! I should inform the FBI about him .

Hey I live 3.8 miles from the San Andreas fault line.... I wonder how that is go to work when it lets loose?

As your locals would say, "No bueno!"

Upside is - if you survive - you're now living on beachfront property.

I heard you guys and some serious dust storms on Monday.

Yup. Lots of downed trees near me, the wind was insane and a few of the games on my back porch caught some damage and stuff got knocked over / launched. I'm thankful I don't have any large trees at my abode... Power was out from mid afternoon until early morning, and it's still hot/humid as balls here. I was sweating soooo much without the a/c functioning. I need to hurry up and figure out how to wire my generator up to at least the refrigerator circuit in my house... Because I have a little portable a/c unit for just such emergencies.

Luckily I didn't lose any roof shingles this time.

Plenty of people actually believe it's a bad game. I don't really don't. But it's so hard it's just not fun. For me. Personally.

And that's it. It's an opinion. Just like yours.

No hard feelings.

EDIT: Yes, I've played it. Many times over many years in many different settings. I don't really care for it.
