So I had a free day and figured that I would do a couple cap kits, never worked on monitors before but researched everything and it seemed pretty straight forward so my adventure began!

First was a WGk7193
Monitor worked And picture was clear except everything was pretty blue. Cap kit went pretty good although took a lot longer then i expected. I could not figure how to replace C55 the power filter even after removing a ton of solder so I left the original in. But overall was impressed with doing my first cap kit feeling like I'm a little more then just a collector now.

Put the monitor back together and nothing, no high voltage to the screen. Checked everything was hooked up and tried again and again no high voltage. Checked the fuse and it was good but then I saw smoke coming from R103 (looks like ceramic tower) next to the power filter so I shut it down until I could ask opinions here. I should add that the fly back was not replaced but I have it back ordered even though I saw no damage on the original.

So then I attempted a WGK7500
This monitor was working but would get blurry as it heated up. So I began a cap kit on it, wow a lot more caps vs the K7000. Kept the original fly back because I didn't order a replacement
I found that it had a lot of lifted traces but I did what I could and checked continuity on each suspect trace as I did them and everything seemed ok.
Hooked it all back up and again no high voltage to the screen. But saw R720 (or maybe it's 728) glowing red.

My brain is fried after spending 8hrs pulling, capping, reinstalling them and ending up feeling like a failure. I am sitting down to rest my mind before beginning trying to figure out how to test b+ and hots or anything else I have never done. But before I feel like an idiot trying to figure how to do all that does anyone have a suggestion of where I screwed up?

I don't think you need to test hots or flyback if they were working before you capped them. Double check your work its something you did. Bridged solder joint , cap backward or broken trace.

the filter cap is no different than any other cap except just much bigger leads and more solder to remove. if things aren't working and they were before the cap kit than you must recheck your work because something is not right. your K7500 original issue may be your flyback going bad.

BTW: all our parts are in stock if you ever need stuff so there is no waiting for flybacks on back order.

I will go over everything in the morning and check my work again for a 3rd time but do you think the parts that were smoking or glowing are bad and need replaced before I can retest? If so it will be a week or 2 before I can get them in to try again.

This could have been fixed with neckboard pot adjustments.

This one probably needed a new flyback, or just adjust the focus pot after it heats up.

Point is, people do cap kits here for no good reason all the time. Sure its good preventative maintenance, but rarely do they fix real problems. As OP has shown, they can quite easily make problems where there were none.

Sorry about your luck with the cap kits, I would really double and triple check your work. Solder bridges, lifted pads, reversed leads, forgotten things, etc...Hopefully no additional damage has been done by a backwards or out of spec cap being installed.

I double checked everything today,
The 7500 had a bunch of lifted traces that I made jumpers for. Two of the lifted traces were were touching and wedges between some jumper wires. Monitor works but still blurry and bright when it warms up so I will be ordering a fly back for it.

The 7000 I went over everything for a 3rd and 4th time and all looked good. Check continuity between everything and all seemed good. Ended up finally getting the power filter out and replaced but hooked it all back up and still no high voltage and still the same part heating up and starting to smoke. Still stumped on the 7000

But the bright side is I ended up getting a good d9200 and like new D9800 today for dirt cheap. I have plans for them so still need to get this 7000 fixed and then another 7000 and 7400 that the colors are off on.

May be time to find some junk boards to work on.
What are you using to remove all of your caps? A good de-soldering iron makes working on these things a whole lot easier.
