Hey everybody, first post here. I recently got a asteroids standup and have a couple of questions. I am having a sound issue, the sound works but is sometimes a little "crackly". It sounds like a old car stereo tuner that crackles when you wiggle the tuner knob. I first thought it was the volume control but I can wiggle and change the volume without any problems. I am starting to think it may be the speaker although I have not taken down the marquis and actually looked at the speaker.

The other is it has new leaf switches and buttons but sometimes wont respond like dirty contacts. I have adjusted the switches like on my pinballs and cleaned the contacts but still sometimes gets you killed because of contact problems. I saw the Happ buttons on Lizard Lick that has the switch built into the button. How do these switches perform, any problem trying to use these as replacements. I guess my question is what are the best switches to use?

Thanks
Travis

Yeah you might check the speaker, mine was devoured by mice, and it still worked, just sounded a little "tinny". If all the connections are good, try re-soldering the pins on the ARII. Good luck.

On the speaker front, I'd check the speaker first and make sure the wires are tightly connected as well, then from there I'd get a AR rebuild kit from Bob Roberts as thats your likely culprit (The AR board is the small board in the cabinet, its the power supply as well as the sound amplifier (AR=Audio/Regulator).

As far as the contacts go, I usually use a piece of extremely light duty sand paper to clean the contacts. Just fold it over so the grit is on both sides, insert it between the contacts, hold the button down and pull it out. Thats it - usually works for me!
