1st post from a new machine owner (quick Gunblade NY question)

Background: A few months ago SEGA held a giveaway as part of a promotion for their new Arcade Hits Pack: Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns for Wii. The Grand Prize was a DX Gunblade NY cabinet... The thought of owning something like that seemed cool, so I threw in an entry.

And wouldn't you know it they picked my name as the winner! So anyway the machine's in my garage, although it didn't come with a manual or any of the extra parts it said it should (I found a PDF file for it online, says it should also have tamperproof wrenches and a remote for the Mitsubishi 50'' projection monitor.)

My question is, could a universal remote be used as a substitute for the included remote? (the screen seems kinda dark, at least that's what everyone else is saying, so I'm here looking for a fix/advice) I'm quite terrified of messing this machine up in any way, so I thought I'd come here maybe someone who knows a thing or two could tell me if this would work.

I'd hazard a guess that you can adjust the brightness without the remote. Have you looked around on the inside of the cabinet? You should be able to locate a row of buttons or knobs with the standard, brightness, picture, v-hold, h-size adjustments readily available for your fiddling pleasure.

Once you get a little braver, you may want to look at cleaning your projector lenses, as well as the screen itself. Those can get extremely dirty, and cause some of the dimness you might be experiencing.

You can also change the CRT coolant in your lenses, that will help with any fuzziness, or glow you might be seeing.

crud... now that I'm getting replies to my posts I'm not getting emails about it. :( Thanks for the reply, I had someone over who turns out was quite familliar with maintenance of arcade machines, so he knew exactly what to do to adjust the settings from the inside... it definetly looks better than it did when I got it.

Well at least it did, if you've seen my latest post around here something else has gone awry and it needs a new power cord. :(
