1st post, 1st arcade machine, 1st plea for help.....Playchoice 10 Countertop machine

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums as I just picked up my first game. A Nintendo Playchoice CounterTop machine. Actually it was given to me by my Father in Law. He worked for Nintendo during the 80's to late 90's and from what ive been told he was given this machine as some type of a bonus or the like. Supposedly there were somewhere around (50) of these countertop units made to showcase "Nintendo" that were given to certain of the higher up management. These machines weren't numbered and had no Id tags/plates anywhere on game. My knowledge on the subject is limited but it sounds like a step past prototype but not quite general release if that makes any sense. Ive been doing a ton of research and as you can imagine theres a shit load about Nintendo to find. I have no way to verify any of this and it matters not as I have no intentions of selling but damn if it isn't super interesting. Can any of you guys elaborate or confirm/deny what ive been told? My wifes dad(Tom) is getting up there in years but has been a straight shooter with me in the past plus its a crazy story. Nintendo giving employees arcade machines to take home for whatever reason is pretty fantastical. Its so damn cool which makes me skeptical. Anyhow from what I can gather the machine was brought home and stored away until recently. Its like new guys which is crazy. The odometer or credit counter whatever its called shows 000002. From what I gather from reading the manual is the unit I have is complete except for this FCC/Filter Board that's missing. It was removed and sent off to a repair technician some time in the 80's because of a faulty volume/sound control pot(?) and was lost/never returned. After that it stayed packed away in the basement. Tom is moving into an assisted living facility so the wife and I have been going through everything in order to clean out the house so that it can be sold. This is off topic but why do old people always have so much shit collected and stashed around the house? 60+ years of STUFF. Its pretty neat helping out but man its tedious. It reminds me of that old saying, One mans grabge is another mans treasure....Anyway I'm super excited about getting this machine up and running but without that FCC Filter board I cant even tell if it works at all. Hopefully one of you guys can point us in the direction of where I could buy/find one. I'm still trying to figure out the KLOV website. Hopefully this is the right area where this post can be seen. If not I'm sorry and please chalk it up to a noob mistake. Thanks everyone!

1. Welcome.

2. Paragraphs are your friend.

3. I'm going to go for it. Reading now.

I think it would be much easier for folks to provide assistance if you could provide a photo of the game.

Does it look like this? If so, I believe these were commercially released, not just a special takehome for employees:

To be honest, if your father in law worked for Nintendo during the 80s-90s, I'd say get as many stories you can from him as you can manage.
Chances are, the tales from back in the day are as interesting and valuable as the machine!

And welcome!

countertops weren't all that common...but that's not what I wanted to ask was if you had looked at the board to see what games you have? If your father in law worked for Nintendo maybe there might be prototypes in there?

Also there's a PC10 group on facebook that can help and check out this too: http://playchoice.riemen.net/

First and foremost welcome.
Second I totally agree with this post. I'd bet he has some really interesting stories that people hear would love to hear and if not handed down would be lost to time.
