Seems to be a run on people picking up Star Castle's lately

Haven't unloaded these yet so better pictures later

Space Invaders shows the following on the screen:

The Star Castle plays blind but just shows a vertical line on the screen.

I haven't had a chance to mess around with them yet to see overall condition. They are pretty rough, but the side art on SC is decent. Not sure if the cabs are salvageable yet (I think they are) but the price reflected that.

These could be fun restores for the Summer!

Those are two great games... One day I hope to pick up a Star Castle too! Once you get that Space Invaders dismantled you won't believe how light it is... the mirror and the monitor make that little bugger weigh a ton!

Both games were very heavy to move. They were in a basement and we had to go up about 8 steps that were not too sturdy with limited head room.

Sure, go ahead and rub in the fact that you have a heated garage and I don't. Bully!

Sorry about that, plus you have the double walled cabinet which will take you longer. Mine's just the one piece of plywood on each side. Not a fair race I guess.

Got them home and got some better pictures

First Space Invaders

Will need some work on the bottom, but structurely it looks solid

Bezel should clean up nicely
IMG_9401.jpg

Control panel is in suprisingly good condition. Once I clean it up I'll determine if I will replace it or not

Coin door is in decent shape
IMG_9403.jpg

Lower back door has swelled to the point that it doesn't fit on the cab anymore and the top back door is missing
IMG_9423.jpg

The back drop is curled up in the back
IMG_9405.jpg

I'll probably be looking for a better one of these

And, you have to love the hacksaw improvisation to keep the interlock closed. Don't people know you can pull these out?

Moon needs a good cleaning (as does everything on the cab) and the black light works

Here is what I get on the monitor
IMG_9429.jpg

I'll be starting by checking out the voltages.

On to the Star Castle

Side art is in decent shape, but up close looks to be bubbling in spots

Bezel

The bad part is the bottom front of the cab. I haven't look closely to see how big an issue this is

More Star Castle

Game powered up and played blind for a few minutes with this on the screen
IMG_9434.jpg

After a few minutes there was a pop and nothing. No sound, no game play, and no vertical line on the monitor.

Next step is to start reading the Cinematronics monitor FAQ

On your SI, check the connector to the power supply. A lot of times, the pins back out of the connector and don't make good connection. if you get a missing voltage or ground, you get that picture...

Nice pickup, Joe. Two great classic games.

Is the Space Invaders bezel the original glass bezel? It looks to be in
pretty good shape.

Jim

It's actually plexi. Is this a reproduction bezel?

I think they were initially glass but were switched to plexi... therefore it being plexi doesn't necessarily make it a repro. I could be wrong... I'm sure there are some space invaders experts out there that would know.

Glass bezels in good shape are a beyotch to find... many times the rubber bumper on the light board will stick to the ink on the glass and when you try to remove it, you remove the artwork with it. Also, the heat from the bulbs will cause the ink on the glass to deteriorate and flake away... in many cases the plexi holds up better.

Years ago Rich @ TOG made some glass repros... they are expensive but it would be nice to get them made again... I know I would buy a new one in a heart beat, even though my glass bezel is in pretty good shape.

I just noticed my control panel is different that what is on KLOV and the TOG reproduction

No wonder it's in such nice shape. Anyone know if this is a reproduction and if so where it was from?
