1st game of 2011: Turbo Outrun mini!!! No sound, need help from owners

I've been on the hunt for a Turbo Outrun for years and my wish finally came true earlier today. I got it non-working but a few reseated cables have brought her back to life. I was amazed to see my old arcade favorite...I haven't been in front of a real one since I was twelve.

I do not have sound and I've tried all of the common things. Often no sound is caused by a bad fuse in the bottom of the cab, I found the sound fuse, but it metered okay. I pulled all fuse QDs and reseated. I pulled apart the two board stack, pressed on all socketed chips, and reseated all cables. No sound at all. Could I have a bad sound pot? Any way to check? Take a look at the picture, am I missing a board? There are a lot of unused connectors in the bottom of the cabinet.

The expensive gears used for steering are okay. I don't think Turbo Outrun ever had a shaker motor. I have one side of art, and one side painted black. One side is better than nothing! The monitor is a K7000 with an original white knob flyback in need of a cap kit. The red monitor plexi is gone and I'm left with a plain replacement. The steering wheel cap is also gone.

there is no sound beacuse someone removed the audio amp board out of it.

those 3 connectors behind the power supply are for the audio amp. If you need one, I have one.

here is a pic of what you need:

Since you have a working turbo outrun, you need to deal with the suicide battery asap. Either have someone do it, or if you have the skills do it yourself.

PM sent!

That looks like what I'm missing. I've heard that the amp board is game specific...ie the mini version has a different pinout than the sitdown version. But hey, if you got this from a mini, then I should be good either way.

I have a bunch of sega system16 boards so I know all about the battery backed up FD CPU. It's no problem, a $40 kit will get this fixed up. It is working right now, so getting the sound up is going to be my top priority (and first purchase). Next will be a monitor cap kit.

Anyone have a manual for this game????? So far my searches have been fruitless.

I just picked up a mini regular outrun last week. I don't think the mini's had shaker module, but not certain. If they did mine doesn't work like yours. I think I remember seeing some paperwork when I opened to coin door. I could check and see what it is and see if it could help you out.

I actually already found the Outrun manual online, just not the one for Turbo Outrun. Aside from the DIPS, it wasn't much help. I don't think my mini ever had a motor, and I don't want one as modessitt says it can trash the gears over time (per an old post). If I crash I'll just jump up and down or let out a fart to simulate the effect.

Does anyone know of cheap replacement art for this game? Even the small stuff would help. I've found a steering wheel cap, but they seem to go for $27. I know Sega's art is expensive, but....maybe I'll do the ultra lame thing and send a sticker sheet through my color laser.

Does anyone know how to tighten up the three bolts underneath the wheel cover? My wheel is almost falling off...I'll look into it a bit more when I get home...it shouldn't be beyond my skills to tighten a bolt :)

Mods: This is turning into a restoration thread, feel free to move this around to the proper section.

I had a bit of time to work on the game and hunt down some parts. All three proper metric bolts were missing from the CP, so I found some worthy replacements. I also created a bezel from red poster board to spruce up this area. From researching past threads on the subject, original bezels flake badly and are hard to find. It seems there aren't to many dedicated Turbo Outrun minis. Anyhow, I had some sticker paper and I managed to create Sega's flying prancing horse shield emblem, a wheel cap, and scaled down map from files online. I'm sure it could have been done a lot better with better equipment and skills, but I like how it turned out.

Next up: Bondo the lock bar holes, repaint the CP, repaint the sides black after masking off the art. Buy a steering wheel cover?
