1st cap kit in the books... Feeling good right now! ZAXXON has never sounded better!

Guys... I know its not a big deal to most but I just finished capping the sound portion of my ZAXXON PCB replacing thirteen 2.2uF 50v capacitors and all the sounds came back perfectly. I took my time and completed it in about an hour. I feel pretty awesome right now. Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way with advice you guys are the best. Next for the Zaxxon will be the monitors cap kit. I just have to muster up the courage for it... LOL

haha
just discharge the tube first and all will be well. I hit it 2 or 3 times just to be sure. I just hate even the little tiny residual shocks that you can get

I never knew the heartbeat in the background was even there till I heard it for the first time just a few years ago
maybe the speaker was blown ???
but the sound didn't have that broken sound a blown speaker has but I don't know

just don't spend 11 hours on trying to fix a chassis like I did and still it not work
haha

Congrats man! I've got my first coming up at some point. My Scramble has the original WG k4615 which is doing great but hasn't been capped yet.

discharge once. pull anode off. just remember later when you go to put it back on to discharge it again. the tube itself is almost like a giant capacitor that will absorb the remaining residual charge off the back of the tube back into the anode hole, charging it back up again.

of course a little zap from the anode keeps us all honest from time to time. ;)

I told you the Zaxxon board would be easy. lol

glad to hear it went well.... i knew you could do it.:D

discharging monitors...

Use a small screwdriver thats connected to the frame with a 18" alligator clipped wire. Once discharged take the clip off of the screwdriver, apply it to the anode and do your cap kit. When done theres no way that the tube will have any charge left in it at all.

FWIW, I bought a metered probe for discharging crts. I wanted a visual reading to verify things were good. It's a bit pricey but with the work I've been doing on my growing collection, it was a worth while investment.

you can get those same high voltage probes on ebay for 35-60 bucks.
