Ok, I got a new HV unit, looks clean & recapped. I cleaned & dried the HV diode & connectors & springs & reinstalled. I changed the 4 transistors on the monitor frame. Soldered solid copper wire at R100 & R101. Installed Bob Roberts cap kit on deflection PCB & replaced bad fuses at F100 & F101. Refowed solder at all headers & anwhere else on defection board that looked at all questionable (by reflowed meaning desoldering first, then resoldering.)
When plugged into working asteroids deluxe, first got flashing red light on game PCB. Turned off game, then back on, got quick green flash upper right corner of back of CRT, but red light on PCB stayed on this time. After a few seconds the monitor displayed normal game picture, but very faint. I left it on for a couple minutes to see if the brightness changed or improved, maybe slightly, but not much.
I turned it off, pulled the monitor to check things out. Noticed the fuse at F101 was blown.
Discharged monitor pulled both boards & went over everything one more time. Didn't see anything that looked funky, so figured I'd try again. No picture at all this time & it blew the fuse at F101 again. Noticed also that the ceramic resistor at the top of the HV board was generating a decent amount of heat & also that the monitor was doing some humming.
I checked the monitor frame transistors for shorts, they're OK.

Any suggestions????

Might help to add that the red led spot killer indicator on the deflection PCB never lit up.

Seems the bridge rectifier at DB100 is shorted, causing fuse at F101 to blow.

The bridge rectifier was the problem. I was able to pick one up at Radio Shack for 2-1/2 bucks...(I was shocked they had it). Monitor up & running now.
Hopefully this will help someone with a similar problem in the future.
Also of note, got a tube of dielectric grease at the auto parts store to grease up the connections on either side of the HV diode after a thorough cleaning & drying.

I was happy to have found this post from 7 years ago. I was having the same issue (F100 and F101 blown when powering up), swapped out the Bridge Rectifier (added new thermal paste on the heatsink) and the monitor powered up. It worked like a charm!
