Well it was working the other day :)

Anyways, Symptoms

Spot on monitor

Spot Killer LED off

No X-Y Chatter

Started digging around the 500 area, but haven't found anything yet.

Pulled and checked q503, and 504 they check good with my DMM.

Have known good HV unit that I test it with, and same thing.

Something in the spot killer circuit?

Well from good, to bad, to worse.

Replaced q503, and 504 to see if that would help as sometimes under load transistors do fail.

Well still no help, single spot on the screen..

So I left the monitor on, with the brightness down so as not to burn a spot in my already burned test monitor.

When all of the sudden C101 (large incoming power filter cap) decides it's time.

So with a Loud pop, and smoke it shot off the board. If you've looked at these you know that c101 is the upper cap on the board when installed. It's oddly enough aimed almost directly at the CRT neck.

Yep you guessed it, when it blew, it didn't explode outwards, the can, and the paper shot out and smacked the neck. Cracking it, so not only was there a nice explosion, there was now the nice sound of rushing air getting sucked into the crt.. I knew I should have replaced those power caps..

Anyways, still haven't figured out why I have no deflection. X, Y, and Z are good, and that's about as far as I got.

Thankfully it was just my crappy test monitor, and not my good no burn asteroids monitor. But now I have to fix my test bench monitor, and still have to figure out what the heck is up with this deflection board..

Happy new year!

Just thought I would give an update. I finally got around to getting some new parts, and a tube.

Replaced C101, and F700 that went with it.

Then plugged everything back up. Still single spot in the center of the screen, no deflection, and no deflection sound.

So I'm digging through the whole Z section find nothing. Check the contrast, and brightness pots. Good. Spot killer circuit good.

That's when I decide to start from the beginning of the circuit, straight from the incoming ac.

Incoming power good, Bridge rectifier power good. Hmm.. No power across r100, 101 should read around 34v Pull and check the resistors, and they are wide open..

Seems odd that the deflection board would work, or act like it's working without those. So I do the field service replacement IE heavy gauge wire.

Bam X-Y deflection is back.

Hope this helps some one else.

Thanks for the update. I love when people come back and post their fixes... makes future searches a whole lot more worthwhile. :beerchug:

Yea, that R100 and R101 had thrown me for a loop too at one time. When I was having troubles with my G05-805. Didn't look bad, but the R100 was wide open. Did the same mod as you and the monitor had been working ever since.

Glad you got it fixed though. And what a shot for that cap to blow to, of all places right into the neck of your CRT.
