Good afternoon, I have a 19K7203 with a very bright, colorful pic and synced in perfectly. I have played with all the color and other pots on the remote board and chassis.

Problem is when I try to get it adjusted in just perfectly clear using the focus knob on the flyback it stops just before I "get it dialed in." Hope that makes sense.

After reading thru multiple threads I am kinda confused on where to adjust...

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.

two things.

get your tube checked.

possibly replace the flyback.

it sounds like your fly may be on the way out, this happens when they have focus issues.

there is nothing else that can be adjusted if your flyback will not get it done and the tube checks out good.

you will need a tube tester to check the tube.

if the chassis has never had any work done, it will need caps wile you have it out.

if you need parts i have them.

if you need it repaired, your welcome to send it in.

Peace

i do stock the cap kits and if you flyback is on the way out i have one more flyback in stock. (i haven't decided if i am going to continue stocking that model because they rarely go bad from my experience). let me know.

since when did purity have anything to do with focus?

purity is for the screen to display an even solid color across the entire screen.

Ouch! Well, if the purity is off, the text and image isn't as clear as it would be otherwise.

that is normally just convergence.

i run all my repaired chassis on tubes with no rings since i swap on the yoke needed.

all of them will focus with no problems even with no rings.

if you watch the last 80-100 of my 25" chassis YouTube repairs i don't have any rings on the 25" tube and they focus fine.

A couple other things to check:

1) check that the focus wire to the neckboard is in completely and secured. If it isn't it can cause focus issues.

2) Take off the neckboard and check the focus pin on the neck. I've seen a bent, dirty, or broken-but-barely-hanging-on pin cause this. Check the socket top, for dirt and crud.

3) Check the neckboard for cold solder joints, especially on the socket.

4) Some monitors (like the 4600) use a capacitor that is jumpered between the focus pin and ground next to the socket. If this cap starts going bad, it can cause your focus to not dial in before you reach the limit. I don't have a 7203 handy to check if it has one.

5) Sometimes "bad focus" is actually problems with the contrast being too high or simply the tube being dirty. Or even nonconvergence being misidentified as nonfocus.

6) Inspect your flyback for small cracks around the focus put. If you have some, then replacing the flyback is your most likely solution.
