I had started another post about a 7201, but then realized that I had a 7203. Anyway, I bought the wrong flyback and I figured that while I was waiting, I could post this question:

The reason I was ordering a new flyback was because I have neck glow, but no HV. It doesn't crackle up when I power the game on, and there was nothing happening when I discharged it. I figured the fly was hosed, but maybe it's something else?

If you got no HV but you got the neck glow, maybe there's something to check before replacing the flyback? Or is that the best route to eliminate it?

It's a 7 year old monitor that has never been worked on. Dude that I got the game from said that it worked fine until he moved it. Who knows if that has anything to do with it. Or if it was going already.

The monitor is obviously getting power (neck glow) so, maybe there's a something I can check?

Thanks in advance...

What's your B+?

heater voltage (neck glow) and high voltage both come from the flyback. If your B+ is too low, it could still be high enough to generate the 6.3vac needed for the heater, but not enough to generate the 23000v or so needed for the high voltage.

But are you completely sure the high voltage is not there? There are other reasons why you might not get a picture - like a bad brightness adjustment pot. Is there any static on the screen. Or a crack across a trace to a pin on the flyback that deals with the HV generation.

If you have a new flyback on the way, put it in when it comes and see if it works. If not, we can go from there...

I never measured the B+

I know, I know! I should have.

Yeah, I'll hold off until I get the fly in. I already took the old one out, the chassis is all over my bench and the game is at a friend's house.

There was no static, nothing. Anode wire looked good, no visible arcing or anything. There was a little goo coming out of the top where the anode wire goes in, but nothing out of the ordinary.

When I get that new one I'll post up what I find.

Thanks for the input!
