I have a Galaga and We could smell a burning right before the monitor went out. What would cause this and is it repairable???? I dont know what the plastic clip held, or if it held anything, but what ever it was, it is now ash.

it held the pcb and now the pcb is ash...;)

the plastic clip supports the chassis so it can't touch the metal frame and arc. you will have to find another way to support it and fix/jumper the traces on the pcb that got burned off the pcb.

So could it just be that it rubbed a spot on the board and caused this and if I just jump the bad trace could it be fine???

nope that pcb can rub plastic all day and not burn the pcb edge right off the board. what happened is metal touched that spot and grounded it while it was powered which could have been almost anything such as a loose screw drops from above and wedges itself there and you hit power and fire works start. that is an example but regardless from the picture it looks like you may have several traces that need repair and once they are repaired then you will have to test and see if there is any components damaged from this.

it's totally fixable.

clean up the area good and run jumpers where they need to go.

the chassis is strong enough to hold itself up as long as you have bots screws holding the sides in properly.

you can also get another plastic clip off a parts frame.

if you don't think you can fix the chassis and need a hand, your welcome to send it in.

Peace
