I was going through some old magazines last night, and I found the May 1990 issue of RePlay.

It was fun looking at the classifieds to see the prices games were selling for 20 years ago. For instance, a seller in Louisiana was selling the following games, advertised as complete games being played on location...

Centipede $325
Donkey Kong $200
Donkey Kong 3 $300
Joust $250
Mario Bros. $375
Pac, Ms.Pac, or Super Pac $395 each
Spy Hunter $675
Tron $275

The two highest priced games on his list were Heavy Barrel for $1275, and Operation Wolf for $1575. Other late 80s titles like Guerrilla War, Kageki, and Shinobi were all $975 each.

Alpha-Omega Sales out of Edison NJ focused on (then) current titles. Here are some of their specials.

Arch Rivals $1295
Big Run $2995
Crime Fighters $1395
Cyber Police ESwat $1595
NARC $1995
Operation Thunderbolt $1895
Sly Spy $1495
Special Criminal Investigation $2795
Super Off Road $2195
Turbo Outrun cabaret $2795
WWF Superstars $1595

There's lots of other great classified ads too, like the crane supply company that offers assorted plush animals (including a teddy bear that moons you), and 32 oz squeeze bottles featuring the Simpsons, the Ninja Turtles, and... brace for it... the New Kids on the Block!!!

Awesome, thanks for sharing! So cool to see the changes in technology and how the prices/demand changed over the years. To think...at one point my TMNT and Area 51 machines cost a couple thousand a piece.

I would have bought one of each back then if it had dawned on me when I was 20 years old that collecting these things would be a lot of fun. Sigh.
