As i'm writing a script for Double Dragon 3 review, I bring up the money aspect of the US version of having to pay money for attributes, weapons, extra guys, etc.

Were there any other games prior to the 90's that did this? I cant think of any at the top of my head. I want to be as factual as can be.

Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about games like Gauntlet where each quarter gave you more health?

But atleast you couldnt learn spells, new weapons, etc (minus health) while feeding the machine.

Edit: I guess the Gauntlet 1 Final Revision of the rom had the health feature in it. Hmmm..any other games?

Lost Tomb (Stern) had a feature where you could buy 20 whips for a credit.

Gorf, Wizard of Wor, Stargate, and Hyberball let you start your game with more lives for an extra credit (so for 50 cents you got 7 ships in stargate instead of the standard 3).

and this is exactly why I signed of for these forums.. the wealth of knowledge.

I guess it wasnt rampant.. but wasnt uncommon. Now a days you can spend $40.00+ on an NHL game just to buy stats, skates, sticks, gloves, and helmets. (on top of the 60.00 price tage)
