A woman on my street when I was growing up was some sort of corporate big wig for CeC. I remember she would give out tokens for Halloween. At some point, she asked my parents if I could appear in training videos for the company. I played the 8 year old son; they filmed them at the Kooser CeC in San Jose. I remember walking in with my "family", ordering pizza and then playing games. It was weird to be in CeC alone and all the games on, the band playing, etc...

I wonder if the video exists somewhere on the Internets.

I hadn't thought about the tunnel in years. Its quite a vague memory, but as a kid I went to a few birthday parties at the one in San Diego which had a similar type padded tunnel you could crawl though as well that went to a hidden room with strobes. I don't recall it being under the stage though (might have been).

Yeah, pretty much.
I was looking at the photos and thinking to myself these could be pretty much any town in America.

If you are talking about the Chuck E. Cheese in Mira Mesa...yeah, that tunnel was right next to the stage. Had a lot of fun at that Chuck E. Cheese! Ha

awesome!

I only got to go to CeC about 3 or 4 times so I don't have too many memories, but it was a blast

That was the only place I ever saw a Turtles In Time machine so it was awesome just for that

def got a few specific arcade memories of Chuck E Cheese in Fairfax, VA (closest one to me growing up):

Star War cockpit
Dragon's Lair (fuck you, DL, i died after 5 seconds and now i'm out TWO tokens)
Goonies (man, i need a Red Tent)
Jr Pacman

awesome post mah man

Ha! I went to the same one growing up in Fairfax. I remember Jungle King was over by the SW cockpit and the red tent was towards the front door. I remember SMB on that red tent too.

For some reason I want to say the one I'm thinking of was in El Cajon just a little further down the hill form Parkway Bowl.

We never had CEC where I lived growing up until the mid 90s. We had "arcade/sport centers", where they'd take defunct department stores and convert them into mega amusement centers with bowling, batting cages, bumper cars, rollerskating, laser tag, small carnival rides, and arcade games.
Was CEC as kid friendly back in the 80s as it is today, meaning did they care about game violence back then or was it anything goes?
At those arcade places I mentioned, I remember my dad taking me when I was 12, and showing him that Kano can perform a fatality and rip a heart out of someone's chest and bite it. He was less than impressed lol.

Based on the timeframe & description mentioned, though, I'd guess it's this one:

The guy doing the voiceover is horrible, I can't imagine how a 16 year old kid in high school getting a job at Chuck E Cheese would have reacted to this crap. There's always such a disconnect between the corporate and the actual location. They could get the same point across in a more relateable way to the employees than this....

Most of the videos on that playlist had a CECU intro and a 1990's date at the end. This one didn't, and just looked older for some reason.

The cut you described even looked like this scene https://youtu.be/BUmnF9IapWE?t=1m44s, but only showed the 'dad'.

I think our CEC is still open... right next to the Blockbuster.
