Anybody else notice that getting games from this year is a real bitch?

I first noticed this when trying to find a dedicated Pac-Land. It wasn't really till I noticed it collecting "Sente" items. Now I'm on a mission to collect the Bally '6 pack' games. Guess what year these came out? Yep - 1984! Cripes!!!!!

Here's a short '84 list....

Konami: Circus Charlie, Pandora's Palace, Mikie, Badlands

Taito: Complex X, Kick Start, Sea Fighter Poseiden, Laser Grand Prix

Sega: Flicky, Mister Viking, Bull Fight

Gottlieb/Mylstar: Three Stooges, Us vs. Them

Bally:Two Tigers (dedicated),Crater Raider, SWAT, Pac-Land, most Sente titles.

Williams: Inferno

to name a few.....

Now I know pinball side of '84 ,some of titles are next to impossible to get. Just never realized this on the 'arcade' side...

Is there a tougher year in than this? In the '80s decade that is....

I would guess this is because of the video game crash. If nobody is buying, production numbers are probably going to be low. In turn, harder to find the games now.

Taito: Complex X, Kick Start, Sea Fighter Poseiden

I have had (and still have) several Kick Start Wheelie King boards over the years, but have never seen a control panel or marquee from it.

You can play Kick Start Wheelie King in an Elevator Action cab- it's just that to mimic the gear selector switch, you first hold one button down and then the second button down also to shift from 2nd to 3rd.

I also have come across several Sea Fighter Poseidon boards and only just this last month have ever seen a marquee. Thanks to Todd Tuckey!
Sea Fighter Poseidon is very cool and playable in an Elevator Action rig.

Another rare Taito one is Time Tunnel. It's worth hacking up another board set to play it. I'd like to find a marquee for this one too.

Oh man I'd give anything for a Two Tigers dedicated. Has anyone EVER seen one of these for sale?

I got one a few years ago in a package deal and sold it to a friend.. I don't think he would sell it...

Revlin just posted about a big score he just got and there is one in the pics.. Maybe you can work a deal, but it might be expensive..

Combination of arcade crash and not much advancement(other than a few Like Punchout and Paperboy). Lets compare Bullfight to Punch-Out and Paperboy. No....lets not.

i have one i bought last year. the cab is a 7, beautiful cpo is really nice. i have it scheduled to be shopped this year sometime, this is one of my grails. really a beautiful cab. i will try and post pics today, i dont think i ever posted pics before. the game comes on but the airplanes are invisible, and all the sound and even the 8 track are working. dont know what it is.

There was a dedicated Two Tigers at the Captain's Auction in Anaheim a couple of weeks ago. In contrast to the TRON conversions, I think it's the same cabinet that was used for the Demolition Derby UR. Also, AFAIK, this was the only version to use an 8-Track player for the airplane sounds.

The one at the auction wasn't plugged in when I got there, but was in very good to excellent cosmetic shape.

This is correct.

I actually never knew the existance of Kick Start till a year or so ago. My friendly Ebay Taito reminder alerted me when a boardset popped up. It was a game I NEVER so bitd.

Kerry, I just picked up a Sea Fighter Poseiden kit from a guy one here. Got the marquee, boardset and bezel. Didn't get the control panel since it looked very generic. And you're right - very cool game!

Time Tunnel is one I frequently play on Mame. About the marquee.. not sure there is one. I usually scope out Yahoo Auctions Japan for Taito stuff. I noticed boardsets (Bio Attack) pop up and they included all the items for the tabletop version. I'm thinking *some* of these games just came in a tabletop format and not an upright.....

They pop up on Ebay occasionally...

There was a real nice one on Ebay some years back.. I believe user SRW grabbed that one?

The only way to play this is the dedicated version. I never could get into the spinner controls instead of the flight yokes. It's one of those games that is O.K. one player but an absolute BLAST 2 player!

Damn, now I'm wanting one again!

Other than low production numbers 1984 probably sucks because a huge percentage of the 1984 titles likely got converted. Graphics advanced really quickly over the next few years and I imagine it was easier to convert that Flicky that was out on the floor than to convert one of those defenders from the back of the warehouse then haul it out there and then haul that Flicky machine back to the warehouse.
