Well, as the name implies, I recently picked up a Mr Do game for the low low price of NOTHING. I asked the previous owner if it worked and he thought a fuse needed to be replaced. I got the game home and after about five minutes of digging through the cab I found a wire on the power supply had been chewed through. I re-soldered it and nervously flipped the switch....it fired right up.

Truthfully I have never heard or seen a Mr Do game, so didn't really know what the graphics should look like.

I knew there were issues with the monitor board (note the video curling on the left side of the screen)

After more research I started to suspect there were PCB problems as well, the graphics/colors weren't right. I decided to take a chance and ordered another PCB, plugged it in, WOW what a difference.

The curl was still on the screen so I knew a cap kit was in order. Thanks to Bob Roberts, installed the new cap's, took about an hour and a half or so. Again, nervously I flipped the switch and noticed an immediate difference!!!

The graphics were brighter, crisper and most importantly...NO CURL. That's all I have for now. I plan on posting more work as I am able to get to it. Thanks for looking.

Thanks guys!! I am really excited to get the game restored now that I know the game functions as it should. Shanman, since you have the game I'd like to pick your brain. I'll be posting some pics later, but I need to know if the control panel metal has a bend or break where it rests on the glass bezel? My CP metal is flat (well for the most part) and it has some foam rubber as a cushion against the bezel. I removed it but now the panel does not latch tight, it has a lot of slop. My gut tells me there should be an angle on the metal to make it fit tight.

I spent part of the day today getting a game plan together for what will need to be done. The sides of the game have LOTS of dings and chips out of the lacquer finish. The bottom edges where t-molding was, has a fair amount of damage.

I'll get the pics posted in a bit so I can have a visual to go along with what I'm talking about.

K, here are the pics. I mentioned lots of dings and chips in the side art lacquer finish.

I'm not sure how to go about a repair with this type of finish.

Shanman, This is what I was asking about in my earlier post

The metal on the CP is flat. Is there suppose to be a bend or break where it rests on the bezel?

The serial tag is pretty badly beat up, hopefully it can be saved.

I took apart the coin door and I'm getting ready to blast it and refinish. Of course I'll post pics.

Coin door before pics,

I'm assuming the holes on either side of the coin mech were for a lock bar. I'd love to get rid of that!!

The cracked back art plexi just annoys me more and more,

No, there's no bend in my cp either. But I had an NOS cabinet that I put all the Do guts into and the latch mechanism that was on the cabinet didn't match the Do latch hooks so I had to rig my own latch mechanism, including the positioning of it. So I really can't say why you'd have slop in your setup.

It's a shame that your back art is cracked like that. Sucks that someone decided to put a screw through it!

My Mr. Do control panel has a bend at the very end of it. It's hard to see from the top view picture, but you can see that it does bend. The other picture clearly shows the bend.

I used bondo on my cab and then used the viny reproduction artwork that thisoldgame sells. Turned out great.

Wow, that looks really nice! I helped Rich with the color matching a little bit. And now that you mention it, perhaps my cp has a slight bend too. The question had me picturing a much more dramatic bend. So now seeing your picture has me curious. I'll have to check mine later.

My Space Panic which is the same type of cab and control panel, doesn't have a bend in the control panel at all.
Yeah, the artwork turned out really nice and looks terrific on the cab.

and this is how my Mr. Do looked before that restoration. The sides painted all black with chips and gouges everywhere.

Thanks Facelift for the pics! I was hoping there was a bend in the CP. It's the only thing I can think of to get it to lock tight. Now the question, how to get the bend back in it. The repro art looks GREAT!! Right now I'm slowly disassembling everything to give it a proper cleaning. I removed the T molding last night. Tomorrow I'm planning on getting the coin box door off and start getting that and the coin mech door stripped. Appreciate the info and pics!

Also Facelift, anyway you give snap a few close up pics of the sides down at the bottom curves. Since mine are so badly chewed up, I need a reference to know about what the curve should be. Thanks in advance.

It seems some control panels have a bend and some don't. If yours doesn't, I wouldn't try bending it. If you look at the picture of mine from the top, you can see that it's made that way.

Dedicated Dos are beautiful cabinets and it's nice to see someone restoring one. If I had a way to grab that one in MN I'd do it in a heartbeat. Great job and best of luck on your restoration. It will be more than worth it when you're done.

Yeah, mine is definitely not bent. Maybe your cp and cabinet are a mismatch (cabinet assumes cp has a bend)? Can you just reposition the latches?

Thanks for the close-up Facelift! When I got the cab, the CP was all bent up and there is/was some foam under it. I shouldn't be nit picky but it bugs the hell out of me.

Shanman, I am going to look at re-positioning the latches. I really want to avoid any extra holes if possible. Again being picky, but I want to try to get it back to as original as possible....if possible LOL.

Thanks airlair, at first I was completely satisfied getting the game working 100% but after seeing the restorations that others have done makes me feel almost obligated to continue!! Tonight some sandblasting....when the temps cool off.

Just a quick couple of pics. Coin mech door after sandblasting.

I didn't take any before pics of the coin box door. I'll have a coat of primer on them tomorrow and post more.
