1981 7-11 Arcade footage uploaded

Looks like a security cam. Check out where they zoom in on the kid when they kneel down.
I remember when every 7-11 had a handfull of games. I dont remember ever going into one and not playing a game or two. As a kid there was always a couple in walking distance from the house.

mid 90s i moved to a big city ghetto. the nickname was "brown town" because its where people went to score heroin. i was barely of adult age and looking for adventure, headed to florida with a small pocketful of money.

there was a convenience store just down the street where all the gangsters would hang out. most anybody would go way out of their way to avoid them, but i would walk right through the group and even usually had to excuse myself to onlookers around the fighing games so i could play some high speed ms pac man.

people would look at me like i was crazy until i dropped a quarter and got half a million points. by then i would usually have a crowd around me.

Now that brings back some memories... It was great to be able to walk in, play some games and then walk out with a large Slurpee.

Excellent! Thanks for sharing. Its hard to believe 30 years has passed.

Wish I could read the "Rules for playing machines" sign that is up on the wall...

I doubt there were security camera's of that quality back in 1981. This is raw footage from a real video camera. This was extra footage from a news story.

was it intended for pr for the gaming companies?

Yes, it was for a 'propaganda' film called "Video Games: A Public Perspective." It was to defend the position that video games were entertainment, and they were not rotting kids brains and causing violent behavior.

Too bad the "rotting brains, violent behavior" camp turned out to be right. Whoda thunk?
