1980's (Asteroid Deluxe) Coin Door Parts --- Wrong ones?

I'm cleaning up my coin door for an Asteroids Deluxe. I purchased some new trim, which included the translucent red piece that says "25" and allows the quarter to go through.

However, it sits about 1/4 of an inch too far into the socket so it's not flush. Where there different versions with longer stems?

Also, did the coin reject/return doors have flaps? I got new ones with flaps, but they don't seem to fit. The doors will not swing back when mounted.

This might be a dumb question, but do you have coin mechs installed? The reject mechanism has a spring on it which pushes the button forward. There's also a sort of "T" shaped plastic piece on a hinge on the coin door which should sit between the reject button and the coin mech's reject lever. It's very easy to miss when installing a mech.

If the stem is long enough to protrude through the hole in the guide, everything should be fine.

Also, either my Asteroids Deluxe doesn't have springs in the reject buttons, or they're all beat up, because without the mechs in, I can press them and they just stick in. The ones in my Tempest definitely have springs inside.

Mine does. They are mounted at the front of the return and there's a metal bar inside which acts as a stop and keeps them from swinging in too far, I guess to prevent them from jamming.

I think you got the wron gparts. You got parts that LOOK like they would work but wont. I did the same for the coin return buttons with my Asteroids Cabaret, I bought what looked like would work and when I compared the old to the new, the old were different just like you described. I cleaned up my old and used them with new .25 labels.

I don't remember the manf name of the coin door anymore (I think it's WICO??) but I did have to buy one coin return flap and got it here: http://thearcadeboneyard.com/

I also do not believe WICO is in business anymore, thus the issue of finding new coin door parts. I know somone will correct me if I'm wrong here.

He has used parts for many games and my coin flap needed to be painted of course being a used one.

Asteroids Deluxe came with a Coinco brand door. Coinco made single type doors (like on Asteriods Deluxe) and they made over/under type doors. I do not know if the parts are "swappable" between the two styles. Atari also used Coin Controls brand of over/under doors. Their parts look identical to Coinco parts......BUT THEY WON'T FIT. I agree with what others have said, you've got the wrong brand of parts.

Thanks all... Here is what I've experienced/learned

1) Coin Controls parts are not an exact fit for Asteroids Deluxe

1a) The coin entry trim fits, but the plastic "25" piece is about 1/4" (maybe 1/8") too short. This causes the "25" piece to not be flush with the external trim

1b) If you place the Coin Controls coin entry trim on, the original plastic "25" piece will no longer fit. In addition to having a slightly long shaft, the piece itself is slightly larger

1c) I was able to address the short shaft issue by stretching some old Happ coin mech springs and putting them over the shaft.

1d) The coin return trim doesn't fit unless two protruding stems are cut. Once cut, the trim will fit on the door. However, the flap that covers the return is too large and must be removed. Even after medium "cutting" effort, I got to the point where I decided it just wouldn't work
