Good day everyone -

This is my 1st post and wanted to say this forum appears to be a great community.

Tons of information and knowledgeable people. Glad I'm here.

I need your help on a new project that I'm about to embark upon.

In the near future, I will own a 1979 Midway Bally Submarine. Very excited.

Em machines are wonderful unique creatures that I've recently just encountered.

Never dealt with a restoration project concerning an EM arcade machine. Your thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here are 2 know obstacles that I will be with the em machine.

1.) Issue of not accepting credits.??? Will have to see upon inspection.

2.) One small cosmectic issue that I will have; the front graphics will need to be completely redone.
*This is the graphic art by the coin slot.

Searching high and low on the internet and come home empty handed. No repos. Nothing.

Yeah, I know it's all part of the game. No pun intended.

Are they out there? Any helpful leads would be greatly appreciated.

or

Does someone own the machine and can take high resolution pics of their front graphics?

Any suggestions for the 1st time EM collector?

Thank you for your time and help.

Welcome to the forum.

have you seen http://marvin3m.com/arcade/msubmar.htm? You could try emailing Clay as he may know where the photo was taken.

I would be interested to see some photos of inside the game if you get a chance. It may help to diagnose the fault. The flyer says the game is an EM but it may also have some logic on boards.

A couple of things to get started is to
fully inspect the game before turning on to check nothing is loose or damaged
check all fuse ratings
turn game on and check all voltages are correct

regards Derek

Thank you dj10555 for the welcome and insight.

I sure will take some pictures and post them for everyone.

Submarine should be arriving next week.

Like you suggested, I will do that and go from there.

I'll keep you posted.

Curious, any particular EM machines that are your favorite?

Clay was great, but still no luck on the front graphics?

Anyone out there have this machine?

The search continues...

Machined Arrived

The Midway Submarine arrived today; excited and bummed at the same time.

The top panel piece was damaged in transit. Not sure, but was not like that before.

I've attached an image of now a new problem.

Can anyone help me out locating a replacement piece?

I'll post pictures of the machine soon.

Best and thank you for your time.

Congratulations. You could try John at flippers.com for a replacement. You may be lucky.
Is this also your game below? I spotted on rec.games.pinball

I'm sure this is a long shot, but I have a customer with a Midway EM
Submarine game who says the plastic piece above the periscope is
broken and he'd like to find a replacement.

Anybody have a lead on one of these?

Thanks,

Friendly Friday Bump.

Looking for the top plastic portion. Anyone have this EM machine?

if you cant find this part, what i would do is take the broken pieces and carefully tape them together on the outside. then (or beforehand) call an auto paint supply store and see if they carry a black epoxi used in repairing car bumpers or other auto plastics. you might need to also get some type of gun that mixes this before it comes out the tube. spread this mixture on thick to the inside part of the damaged area and let cure as per instructions. when its done i promise that plastic will be bonded for life. as for the outside, you will probably have some cracks. fill these in with the mixture also and sand smooth. lastly, tape off marqee and just paint the whole top part with some krylon type plastic paint. this can be a little messy, but if you take your time, the results are worth it! i did this to my outrun control panel and it turned out very nice. p.m. me if you need a name of the mixture and ill make a call and p.m you the info. ...GOOD LUCK....Crowbarz

I have never seen this machine before, pretty cool. I agree with crowbarz, tape the pieces in place (if you have them) and do the fiberglass thing. I'd go as far as to remove that marquee so when you're done with the filling process you can give it a primer coat and then paint. Depends on how well you can mask it.

If you don't have the pieces you need to remake the area. Either find a local sculptor that can make a pattern for you, or find a sign shop that can do vacuum forming and see what they say. You'll end up spending some cash this way, but the likely hood of finding a replacement is pretty slim IMO. Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you guys for the suggestions to repair the top panel portion.

Good news! I am a freelance artist, who concentrates in sculpting, mold making and painting.

The top panel was missing several pieces, so I will have to resculpt those missing areas.

I was just hoping to save me some time & money ... luck out and find the top piece.

It appears that locating this piece is not going to happen. Wishful thinking you could say.

So, sculpting time ahead for me. :) Thinking about casting a final piece in fiberglass.

Tons to do on this machine, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Submarine will live again.
