On Player 1 the gears 1,3,4 all seem like there in 4 gear. Gear 2 is normal. Player 2 works perfect. Hopefully is a easy fix. thanks bafjr

If none of the swithes are closed on the shifter I'm pretty sure the game thinks your in fourth so check the ground wire that connects the switches on the shifter to the ground on second gear. That would be my guess.

Check the wiring to the switches on the back of the shifter. If it's good check and see if the switches are being depressed when you shift. Sometimes that little metal pins can wear out. - Barry

Some of these work 4 ways, but with only 2 switches... so if one switch isn't working, it will just go back and forth between two gears. I can't remember if Sprint is like that, like said though just check out the back of the gearbox and see how it works when you move the lever, should be something simple.

The first things I always do is 'dress' the contact pins for the shifter. You probably have the old style aluminum ones before they were switched to steel later on because of so many problems in the field. What happens is the contact end of the pin mushrooms over and it gets stuck. Just file off the mushroomed part and that will make for some smooth shifting. Even if this isn't your exact problem you will be amazed how much this improves the shifter function on your game....

Good luck!

P.s. Sprint 2 is my all time favorite...awesome that you have one!

fixed sprint 2

I removed both controls and clean them. The little pins were sticking. works perfect now.

I still can't believe I found have one.

This was hugely helpful!! Thanks for sharing. Is there a Sprint club on KLOV yet? I'm going to do more digging. It is quite a unique game, one of my all time favorites as well. I played this in 1976 and thought it was the best thing ever but haven't seen it much since, but now I have a fully functional specimen in my line-up, couldn't be happier!

I've got a nice one:
