Greetings,
I have a 1975 Fascination.
I had found a technician, who was willing to repair my 50 year old board from my fascination video game.
I do not know which pong clone I have, nor do I know how to tell the difference between fascination 500 and fascination 600 pong clone machines.
A local technician named Billy with 30 years experience fixing video games said that the electrolytic capacitors
On the board needed to be replaced. This would fix the problem of demo mode, but the game not starting.
The technician who actually did the fixing named Omar said that there are many ceramic capacitors on the board that usually don't go bad.
Omar replaced the electrolytic capacitors on the board as requested. The game, as it used to do, still powers on. But now, your able to start a game.
The pong ball, which is visible in the demo mode, is not visible during game play. Omar had speculated that there is a crystal on the board. That this crystal may be bad, changing the frequency, which would possibly make the ball not visible. The crystal part number is Scm-18 the manufacturer is Sentry.
I think this game was ahead of its time. It has 4 players, and 2 games as well. 12 combinations of games. 50 Years old, and better and more capable then it modern counterparts. No game counter though, interesting enough.
Anyone have any ideas for me? Is Omar correct? If so, where can I get a 50 year old replacement crystal from?
