i have an opportunity to pick one of these up, but it's not working. i have not yet seen the machine, but i am told that it powers up but the "ball will not release" and the "bat will not swing."

i know absolutely nothing about these types of machines...never owned one...never seen the guts of one. how are the ball release and bat even controlled?

how hard are these things to troubleshoot/repair? what about for a newbie like me?

is it even worth getting into? from looking at the pics, it looks like the thing must weigh a ton.

any and all advice is appreciated...i'm probably gonna have to do something on this within the next couple of days.

thanks in advance, fellas.

They are very similar to pinball machines of the same era. They are fairly simple, the ball release and bat are both solenoid controlled. I have been looking for one of these machines to add to my collection, I almost had one in NC but I let it slip through my fingers...

is it just a matter of replacing the non-working solenoids? and are they easy to come by?

thanks.

It is more likely that the switches are out of adjustment or a solder joint cracked. If you need to replace the solenoids Steve Young at The Pinball Resource should be able to help you out. He may also have schematics if they are not included with the machine.

one other question:

assuming i pick this thing up, is it OK to transport it on its back? like, lay it down in the back of a truck? or does it have to be transported upright?

I am confused by your question. The best way to transport it in my opinion is to pull the legs and leave it in its normal position. You can pull the head as well if necessary. I suggest pulling the balls no matter which way you transport it.

from the looks of this flyer & the few photos i've gotten from the owner, it's an upright:

i figured it was a pin-type body as well when i first saw the ad online.

OK, I get it now. I was thinking of Midway's Deluxe World Series. This is a different machine.

It will be OK to transport on its back. You should still remove the balls and make sure nothing internal is loose. You don't want anything bouncing around damaging things.

BTW, that thing is 380 lbs so...

i guess it's still solenoid-controlled for the ball release/swinging bat? or does that change now that this is a different model from what you were thinking?
