Looking for advise as whether to try and fix a 1971 Chicago coin
defender machine gun game that I recently got or part out the game.
It is missing the front game glass/plexiglass with the art work and the
complete sound cards. Game turns on, timer works planes rotate along
with being shot down. Not scoring but haven't really looked into that as
of yet. It has been very hard locating parts for the game.
Any help would be appreciated, or should I just cut my losses and part
out the game or try and sell it as is.

I would cut your losses. I had one of those. It was a minimally fun game. The sounds for the game are pretty key. It makes a firing sound as you pull the trigger. You have a hit and a crash sound. The missing backglass also takes away the charm of the game.

The time involved to make it working is a passion rather than a money maker.

Problem is finding the missing parts, you think someone would have them lying around collecting dust.

They exist. Do you want to wait or be the one to help complete somebody else's machine.

so, its either wait for the 2 parts I need to become available or just try and sell the machine I have, don't know if someone is willing to pay for shipping a whole machine just for the parts

If you can find a good picture of the backglass, BGRESTO may be able to help re-make it.

@rod90 has some good advice. For glass I'd just cut a new piece of plexi and move on.
If you find another one you can get pictures of the sound cards and reproduce it if you're so motivated. Hit up Mike Pacak and Steve Young to see if you can get documentation or schematics. Post on the EM rifle Facebook group and you may get lucky.

I've seen one before and can imagine it pushing 400 lbs.

Thank you to all, have some contemplating now on next step

This is a cool machine, and well worth restoring. The effect of the planes flying and then crashing is very neat and well done. Where are you and the machine located?
