Hello all,,

Does anyone know how to adjust the speed pitch on the Diplomat?

On some older turntables I've worked on in the past, had a small slotted dial like a balance adjust that allowed me to slow down, or speed up the pitch. But I cannot locate one on this box.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

Ok correction.

It plays fine when just turned on, but after a hour or so of continued use, the sound speeds up slightly.

What can cause this?

Thanks for the help.

Tom

Only thing that comes to my mind is that the motor or turntable is binding at startup due to lack of lubrication, or the motor is getting low voltage in the beginning and a connection improves as it heats up. I presume you have counted the rpm in both conditions, I'm just curious how much of a change there is.

Hi Tom,

Rowe Ami jukeboxes such as yours do not have a means of adjusting the speed other than the speed shift from 45 to 33 rpm.
I suggest that you strip down the turntable motor and clean out all the old oil and reassemble. Just oil with a couple of drops of oil only to the bottom and top bearings.
Check out the idler wheel linkage and the idler wheel for wear, clean all the parts in soapy water and oil with one drop of oil to the pivot points.

Hello all, and thanks for the replys!

It most certainly is the idler wheel.
Now, just have to find a replacement.

Let the hunt begin!

Thanks again for your help!

Thanks guys for those sites!

I take it, that its possible for the idler wheel to wear down over time.

With it being spring loaded, would it make a difference what diameter the wheel is?

Just a thought,

Idler wheels are a common "wear" item. I replaced many back in the day. Of course, back in those days the idler wheel only cost about $5 to replace. Now it costs about $50.

Yes, tire diameter does make a difference. If you cannot purchase a replacement, there are guys on the antique radio forums that can rebuild the existing one and put new rubber on it. Costs a bit though.

Got speed issue under control. ;-)

You guys really know your stuff!

Now if I can get to stop playing the song after the one I pick. Like the the following a or b side.

Is there a thread for that?

Or it scratching my 45s when it pulls and replaces my Disc.

Thank you!

Tommy

Hi Tommy,

You need to check all the adjustments and setting on your search unit and stop plate assembly for being correct as per your manual, if do do not have one go to www.victoryglass.com or in Europe www.jukebox-world.de

With regards to scatching the records is this being done on the seperator wires or the turn table (platter) If it is on the seperators you need to center the gripper bow/seperator adjustment again see the manual.
If the stratching is down to the turn table then I suggest that you fit one off of a later jukebox that has a rubber mat, you can use one off of a TI-1, TI-2, R-74, R-80, R-81, R-82 or R-83, but no jukeboxes after the R-83 they changed the turntable to a belt driven.
