It's been a while since I checked in on my Star Baseball restoration. It's been a slow go with a big learning curve. Since this was my first EM, I've relied heavily on the very thorough help available through the web as well as TOM.
I've torn down all steppers as they were frozen completely and cleaned them well. Machine was working partially at this point but still far from acceptable. Was able to start a game but found the pitcher motor fiber gear was shot. After a lot of work, I finally got it disassembled from the pitching unit and have it at PBR for repair. I just didn't feel right busting open the motor and potentially paying more to fix my screw ups.
While waiting for the motor, I've focused on cosmetic details. I completely cleaned the pf and there was actually some color under there. I also completely sanded the cabinet and backbox of that white paint it came with. Shame because there was some graphics left under the enamel but was worthless by the time I got to it. Stripper had no effect on that old paint. Did my best to match the original green paint and speckled it this morning. It's not perfect but it looks a lot better than it did previously. I'll need to paint the inside of the cabinet and stain/seal the rails today. I was able to get a stencil of the backbox and will add that back as well. I hope someone out there will be nice enough to trace the cabinet graphics someday as this machine has the same gfx as 3 other Williams machines.
Here are a couple of before and after shots.
