I havw recently come into possetion of a 1948 Mills Hightop (5 cent) looking in the back I noticed a significant amount of the mechinism appears to be made out of copper or brass colored metal. I have not seen others like this most others are all Iron steel and sheet steel ( ie the drums )

Any one know about this ?

is it a bad re-pro ? (It looks original )

the modle year is post war so I suppose brass and copper were more available but the softness of mwtal is a bit confusing.

Then again I may be wrong it may be the "petina" of hat ever metal it is.

Thanks

Probably bronze.

well that makes a bit more sense
But dose that mean it is a cheep knock off , refurb or is that in line with authentic . . . Like I said I'v not come across anything like it before

For the most part only the coin tube ,coin slides and reel hubs should be brass. I just restored 2 high tops. Can you post pics or email them to johnnyselman at charter dot net .

I can't get any pix to transfer to reply ( I don't know past cut and past and "Past" won't highlight )
