Always been looking for a classic shooting game like these. What do you think I should go with? I like both. Thanks for your opinions.

Sky Shark would be my pick. Both are good games but Sky Shark is way better, it's got a better challenge level, awesome power ups (it's takes like 3 or 4 levels without dying to fully power up), better graphics and most of all better MUSIC, the music in Sky Shark kicks ass! Sky Shark is totally awesome!

1943. theres dozens of shmups better than sky shark. i agree with whoever said raiden is better. my favorites are the donpachi and strikers 1945 series. sky shark pisses me off because every time you die it starts you farther back in the level. i always turn off continues and never play other than one quarter one credit so its not like i want to bomb my way through the game or something, its just personal preference. the game stopping and setting me back throws off my timing. i just played sky shark and threw down 128,310. not a bad game, theres just alot that are better in the genre, IMO.

My thoughts exactly, another vote for Sky Shark.

I vote 1943 because of the attract sounds.

In the late 80s, you could hear those "power up" noises in every arcade. :D

1943.

I like the power and gun management system that you use to try and stay alive. Sky Shark is also initially a lot harder and doesn't allow you to continue exactly where you left off. 1943 is quite a long game, but I love playing through all of it.

I am honestly surprised at the love for Sky Shark, here. I may have to try it in MAME and see if getting a SS board is worth it.

I love 1943, it's my dedicated vertical JAMMA. NOS side art, dedicated CP. Replay-able, great music and sounds, easy for the beginner and gets challenging quickly enough.

It's like an early version of Raiden with Bi-Planes. I've actually played it a few times this week, but it can't shake my love for 1943. Like I said though, it's initial difficulty is sort of off-putting.

it surprises me too, when there are so many better games in the genre. not even top 20 in my opinion. 1943 is a classic! the two dont even compare, again, in my opinion.
