Hello, I figured I would post my progress on here for my Satans Hollow restoration project. I am not a professional whatsoever and this is the first restoration I have done, so I'd love to get feedback from you guys.
Today I was pleasantly surprised to see the original backlight was hiding underneath this ugly Romstar sticker! I carefully used a razor blade to remove it and used some goo-gone to get the sticker residue off. I temporarily installed the control panel as well to see how it would look all together. And so far looking way better! The art for this game is so beautiful.

I have currently acquired most of the parts to fix this thing up already. I have gotten the two rare parts (CP and PCB). And even though it's not pictured, I do have an original handle as well I have yet to wire back together.
Even though the backlight is great news, I've uncovered some not so great news. Turns out the grey paint is not just covering the red paint, some maniac SANDED IT DOWN and then put the grey paint on. Satan was hand painted on the sides of these machines, so that I infuriating that I now have to replace him with a sticker instead, which I have found for sale online. Not a big deal, but definitely not what I wanted to hear. I was planning on using chemicals to strip the grey paint and hopefully restore that hand painted satan on the side.
There is a small portion of the machine that was not sanded, and I have been able to color match with some Home Depot paint cards. So we should be able to paint it very soon here.
Anyway, that's all for now. I'll be posting as I make progress. My next plan of action is to strip all 1942 parts, so if any of you are interested, I'll be posting them for sale very soon. It will include the CP, PCB, manual, some wiring I'm able to salvage, and the marquee. The CP is a satans hollow one that has been heavily modified to use 1942 controls and I was not able to salvage it for this game.
If any of you have any recommendations on painting, I would love to hear them. I may start sanding tomorrow if I have the time. Before any of you say it, I know not much profit will be made off of this. I just generally enjoy restoring things, I started with restoring old schwinn bicycles and somehow made it here. I think bringing back history is a really cool thing to do. I'm planning on making about $1,000 profit, but I expect there will be a lot of unexpected expenses as I move on. I also plan on keeping this machine for quite a while because it's just cool.
Thank you all for being nerds with me. If anyone wants this machine when I'm done, let me know. Like I said I'll keep it for a while but it would be a great buy knowing everything I did to it will be documented right here. In the ABQ, NM area.
