Finally was able to successfully rebuild the 19" Tatung monitor in my stand up Megatouch. I've had this machine for nearly 6 years or so. The monitor has needed a rebuild for all that time due to drifting focus, drifting brightness, etc. I'd dial everything in and the next power cycle, it would be all out of whack again. The cap kit wasn't the issue, it was the flyback. A compatible replacement wasn't available. Based on the part number stamped on the flyback itself, there were NO replacements that could be found anywhere. After some Google searching, I found out that I wasn't the only one who could not locate a compatible replacement.

So after inspecting the chassis thoroughly, I noticed that it was extremely similar in layout, parts, and look to a Neotec. More specifically, a 25" Neotec 2515C. Even the neck boards were nearly the same. What was more intriguing was the flyback looked to be exactly the same as the one in the 19" Tatung chassis. Same footprint, same look, same design, same dimensions, etc. Based on the similarities with not only it, but the Neotec chassis itself, and the fact that the 2515C was notorious for the same types of issues I was having with the Tatung, I took a gamble and installed the replacement 25" Neotec flyback in the 19" Tatung. I also installed a full cap kit. Gave everything a good once-over, powered it up and...it works! Got everything dialed in and it's been running for nearly an hour without issue. The picture is crisp and looks great.

I'm posting this in the hopes that if anyone out there needs to rebuild the Tatung monitor in their Megatouch and is having trouble finding a new flyback, a compatible replacement is the Neotec 2515C flyback!

You, sir (or madam?) are an absolute lifesaver. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for this post. I even finally got around to registering an account and making a donation just to post this reply!

I have a Tatung Type 58 that was removed from a Megatouch. I'm currently using it in my MAME cab. It's a really fantastic monitor but I noticed that it starts off "fuzzy" and slowly comes into focus over 15-20 minutes. Then after an hour or so it starts to drift out of focus again and the faint white diagonal lines of death appear in any black areas.

Prior experience with CRTs tells me that the flyback is the culprit and I have just bought 2 (may as well keep a spare in stock) of the flybacks you mention on ebay.

The exact model number for anyone else looking is MRCFT-216.

I will post an update on my progress once I've made the repair.

Now you just need to correct the width.

If the B+ is correct then I would replace the width cap.

its the poly in front of the flyback.

Good Luck!

THANK YOU for taking the chance to try this sub out and THANK YOU for posting the results!

I also have a Tatung VT19726Z with a bad HVT and had basically given up trying to find one.....

Now I can get back to this and hopefully bring it back.

BTW, I still have not found a schem for this monitor, can you please share where you get the B+ from and what it should be?

Thank you again

Jeff

So can I assume that I could use the Neotec 2515C manual on this application? I'll take a look when I can and see if this is possible,,,,,,,,

OK, got started and found a split ceramic cap on the back of the neck board (see attached). It almost looks like it was carefully cut!
I checked and get a reading of 0.29nF but as it is split, I am not sure to accept that reading as what it is supposed to be originally and as I cannot understand what the .75 means - never saw that before.
Has anyone come across a "cut" cap or know how to read that cap?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jeff

Glad I could help. The topic Tatung is still running strong without an adjustment made since the flyback was replaced!

Can you please tell me what the original flyback model number was that you replaced with the Neotec HVT?

It appears that I jumped the gun and the one in my monitor is (substantially) different than the one you had.....

The model number on mine is: TLF217E-01-71 and I cannot locate a replacement.... ugggggg....

Thank you, I wanted to at least have this as a cross in the future.....
Still cannot locate one for mine....:(

I've always suspected that Neotec was rebranding Tatung monitors. They look exactly alike except for the label.

Makes me wonder if the 13" Tatung's in the bartop Megatouch's are some form of Neotec. Except I didn't know Neotec ever made any 13" size CRT monitors.
