19" Replacement Chassis - Thoughts?

I've used one similar to that and it was horrible

You can get a nice rebuilt g07 chassis for $90-$115 shipped. That's the way I would go.

Thanks for the input. Just curious. What was so bad about it?

again, not sure it was that exact chassis, but the one I had (wei-ya I think) would not sync up colors at all with any game I tried it with. EXCEPT a 60 in 1 board. Every classic I tried it on, wouldn't work.

You can get one cheaper from AlvaAmusements, for either low impedance (K7000, K4600, etc) or high impedance (G07, K4900, etc), with either the small neck (8-pin) or large neck (10-pin) tubes.

$55 for isolation transformer required
$65 for no isolation transformer required

I've used them several times and not had any major problems. Sometimes they work perfect and sometimes there are tiny geometry issues that most people wouldn't notice. You'll have to adapt the power and yoke wiring, and figure out how to mount it to the frame, but other than that they're okay.

Although I'd rather have an original and rebuilt G07 for the better longevity option....

Just built five Wei-Ya/TV tube chassis monitors are they all have great pictures with very nice colors. I burned each of them in with a JROK board for 6 to 8 hours without a hitch. So far I've used one in a Joust and one in a Galaga Moon Patrol and couldn't be happier.

The Joust has a tiny geometry "thing" but you only notice it when the grid is on the screen. Lonnie McDonald just flipped this machine and he said the picture was fantastic! (And he played 55 Jousts prior to ours so I think he'd notice is the picture was crap.)

Maybe you got a bad chassis tron guy? The first chassis I received(which was from TwistedQuarter.com) needed lots of solder touched up before it'd work right. To me it looked like it was used but TQ said it couldn't have been. :dunno:

Here's a picture of a couple of them burning in...

With a little video...

The camera sucks but you get the idea...

And then here's a video of the Joust as Lonnie rolls it...

Little better camera for this one...

Heh... guess I just realized I'm a Wei-Ya fan boy!

Yep... they have the cheapest price and the woman who takes the orders is about as nice as it gets. :)

Thanks Jeff. One more question...did you have to replace the cap like you mentioned in one of your other threads for any/all of them?

Strangely no... that first chassis(the crappy one from TQ) was the only one the screen was too wide on. I can't remember what that tube had as far as measurements but I'll bet the horizontal and/or vertical coils were pushing the limit of the chassis(or the chassis was simply crap). ;)

The most recent tubes I've been using have had the vertical coils in the 4-5Ohm range and the horizontal coils in the 14-15Ohm range.

Swapped my first 13" tube last night into a K7800 monitor(using the K7800 chassis) and the picture is beautiful. The coil measurements were within 0.5Ohm in each direction so I only had to do some minor adjustments.

Quick side question guys, where do you get your new tubes. I have a couple of good monitors that just have bad screen burn and it would be nice to put on some new tubes. I think they are alll K4900's.

Curbside on garbage day... Thrift stores... friend of a friend... anyplace I can. ;)

I'd say I'm at about a 50-60% "good tube" rate now. I've basically given up trying to find tubes for G07s and WG4600s(or any of the older chassis) now since for some reason in my area I can't find any. Seems like around here you can find 8-pin necks with 4-5Ohm horizontal coils and 13.5-15Ohm vertical coils(which are perfect for Wei-Ya chassis from Alva Amusements).

There are a couple guys local who I've turned on to doing this so curbside pickup is getting a little tougher. ;)

I have an ops jr pac in pac cabinet. It has one of those replacement chassis in it. It might need caps, bit it has jitter on the right side of the screen(About 20% of the screen top to bottom).

I would not use them.

How are you guys getting ahold of Alva Amusements? I've tried a few times via email and nothing back from them.

Call them. Emails back from them can take a bit but you can't order that way anyways so just call.

Here are the numbers I call...

Please call and ask for Mrs. Mizar

And here's the two chassis I've used(8 & 10 pin necks, low vertical resistance, no iso)...
CHASSIS 2620H, 19"(VERT, 9~15 ohm)(NEGATIVE SYNC) BIG NECK (10 PINS), 110~220v, DON'T NEED ISO TRANSF. $ 62.95
CHASSIS CH-2620S 19", 110~220v, BUILT IN TRANSF LOW Z, 9~15 ohm SMALL NECK (8 PINS)(NEGATIVE SYNC) $ 62.95

I've used the chassis quite a few times. Eventually it became kind of unecessary because almost always you can rebuilt the original chassis and get it working again.

They were decent, though.... I had one that just ticked out of the box, but most of them worked fine. Decent pictures, and a board that doesn't really have that much stuff on it. I never really had to fix one, but there's not much there, it's a simple design.

Ive had my hands on a cpuple and they arent my first choice..

For building a "new" monitor with a used tv tube, theyre awesome usually.

For repairing a monitor, every frickin time, i get linearity issues etc the pic is just never "right"

But.. like i said if you are building monitors then they seem to b the way to go.

For repairs, i prefer to fix what i have anytime i possibly can.
