19" or 25" Smash TV- which is worth more and why?

Assuming both are dedicated and in very good shape. Exidy's price guide seems to suggest that the 19" may go for a bit more, despite probably not having the Pleasure Dome ROMs, which I'm guessing came out later. The 19" does have a cool bezel and takes up less room. Any thoughts?

Personally, I rather believe that the 19" version is less common. I also like it a little better, since it's somewhat smaller. I have the 25" version, and that cabinet is a beast! But, even though it is huge, it's well worth the space it takes up. Awesome game.

Also, there is nothing "special" about the pleasure dome ROMs - you can very easily burn new ones and upgrade a board that doesn't have it.

I have the 19" one. Was not by choice , I just happen to get a good deal on it.
Still have to give the CP a good cleaning but otherwise it's in great shape and fully working.
I would have taken either one but I'm glad I got the 19inch one since it's so much lighter :)

The only version I've ever seen is the 25 incher. Never seen 19. I mean, maybe 19 is rarer...but who the hell really wants to play that game on a smaller screen? Smash TV deserves at LEAST 25 inches. ;)

All good points. Does the CP ever get cramped playing 2 player on the 19"? the CP on the 25" seems a bit roomier.

As you said, the 19" version turns up less frequently and has that cool bezel. But sosage's point about the larger playfield in the 25" version outweighs the bezel and the rarity factor of the 19" cab for most players. Pricewise, it's probably about even. If someone was offering both cabinets for the same price, I'd go with the 25" cab.

Just buy both. :)

Thanks. Would anyone be willing to burn me the eproms, if necessary? I'm working on finalizing a deal--not sure what ROM version is in it.

I suspect that I'd prefer the 19" myself... I imagine that it's like some older games, where being able to see the entire screen at once gives you an advantage. If your eyes have to dart around a bit, it would probably make it harder to play.

[ThanQUOTE=RetroHacker;1302564]Sure! Just shoot me a PM if you end up needing them.

Thanks, Ian! I'll be in touch if I end up needing them.

well, I have a 25" and if I had to choose, 19 or 25, It would be close. the 19" would fit better in the williams row, but the 25" would look great next to my decdicated trog.

I think I would go with the 19" as it would save a little room.. Maybe I would change my mind if I ever played a 19" one..

I used to OWN a 19" model, and it was the ONLY one that I had ever seen, aside from this thread. It had a VERY LOW serial number, and I can only assume that they are FAR MORE RARE than the 25" models, of which I have seen plenty of. The 19" looks more like a traditional Williams cabinet, so in my personal opinion, the 19" is more desireable for both being uncommon and blending well with robotron, joust and other vintage Williams cabinets...

I like the 25" myself.
I'm putting the final touches on mine which will have Smash TV and Total Carnage in it.
I'll take some pictures when I get it up and running, but I would go with the 25".
I have to agree that I would think the 19" with two separate players would be a bit cramped.

The 25" is the only way to go! Sure, its a few inches wider and deeper and heavier, but...

Control panel... sure, there's enough room on the 19", but I don't like being up on my buddies jock either while I'm trying to maneuver! That few extra inches is nice especially with double joysticks your arms kinda flail around sometimes. Its like playing Mario Bros. on a conversion cab... sure its only a few inches but DAMN night and day difference!

Monitor... The way the dedicated Smash TV 25" cabinets are made the monitor sits back and at more of an angle, so it is actually VERY comfortable to play long sessions as opposed to a 19" monitor thats right in my face and my neck is bent straight forward to see it. You can see all the enemies just fine both sides of the room and kitty corner, the angle is so good on the monitor it doesn't screw up the playability of the larger monitor.

Graphics... The game was made to run on a 25" game! You don't see the stretched out pixelated graphics of older games on larger monitors. Everything is colorful, sharp and smooth.

Cabinet... Who wants a game that looks like every other Williams cabinet made for almost 10 years? Gotta love that bitchin' shape and extra couple of inches of artwork on the big bad boy cab.

The main advantage I can think of with the 19" is SPACE/SQUARE FOOTAGE, I can think of no other reason I'd want one other than maybe it has a cool looking bezel, which could easily be made something similar on the 25" cab.

Does anybody have a scan or a few descent high-rez pictures of the 19" bezel?
For years I've been thinking I'd like to make a custom one, seeing the 19" cabinet again as opposed to the black bezel on the 25" cab I have would be sweet!

I also have Total Carnage and its cool firing up some Desert Storm action now and again! Smash TV is better but T.C. is almost a MUST if you own a Smash cab since its plug and play with the pcb & sound board swap.
