19" LCD replacement monitors with MCR games

And now we finally agree on something :)

:)

Just let the poor guy do with HIS Tron what he wants. I never understood the anal mentality here. Thats why I dont post here very often anymore.

I mean look at this thread. So much anger (admittedly on more than one side).

Hate, what hate?

It's advice to bring a game back to original condition or close to it. Some of us like these games, they mean something to us, part of our life, history, past.

We joined a preservation site where we thought we would find like minded people wanting to preserve games.

Where was there hate? Giving advice and a differing opinion is not hate.

Does it just do that when posting as attachments? Or when posting from a phone?
I use my hosting site and never have that problem.

I think is has something to do with posting pics from a phone when the phone is held vertically. I didnt know it would do that or I would have fixed it before I posted it.

lets see if this works.

It's a phone thing, usually. Programmers got lazy and instead of having it alter the pixels, they put a smaller piece of code in to "tag" the photo as being vertical, and some, but not all, programs will see that and rotate the image.

I'm sure I worded that technically incorrect, but I got the point across, hopefully. Lol.

Trust me, theres a lot of it here. Again, its why I dont come here very often.

Some of us can get things we need at the drop of a hat. Hell, I have at least 10 CRT monitors sitting in my shop right now.

Thats not the answer the guy was looking for though. He asked about LCD's and met with resistance instead of answers. that=hate as far as I'm concerned.

I'll add this here.

I come at these things from not only some one that likes the games but from the viewpoint of an operator (have been for most of my professional life). If an LCD is what it takes to fix a game and put it back out then so be it.

Well I guess that's the shame of the Internet. Can't tell how the person really feels if you can't see facial expressions and body language. In no way when I was responding was I mad or angry. I was smiling inside the whole time. If I was sitting face to face with him I would have said the same thing over a beer and then moved on to another topic.

Same with you. Nothing against you and at no time have I been mad or angry with you. Same deal I would buy you a beer and discuss things like this all day long with you face to face and never get mad.

My dad always said I could argue all day with a stump. I love it , but some people don't :)

My best friend in the "Arcade world" was a former operator and feels the same way. We spend a lot of time together and have never had a problem. And I'll fix every monitor for him for free and try to talk him out of lcd's. When he insists on an lcd, I'll give him advice on how to do it if he asks. But I will try my best to discourage him from doing it.

Fair enough. :)

OK, so will an LCD monitor, say a Wells Gardner WGF1979-SDES38C for instance, work in a TRON????
From what I have read (that actually pertained to the subject at hand) it should.

Can anyone confirm this fact?

Thanks in advance
Jeff

Tron vs LCD Monitor

To my surprise it actually works. Looked really bad at first but after some adjustments it looks OK.

Pic to come shortly... The game is a Tron BTW. Not that it matters that much.

Ghosting is thanks to the camera.

I am currently trying to synch the a 49-2604-30M VisionPro Monitor that you use in your pictures to my tron and it is not working.
When I connect the monitor, it display "out of range H:15.7 Khz V:31 Hz".

We know that the PCB is working fine. Connected to a regular monitor we can confirm that the game is functional and displaying correctly. I also include a picture of my connections that might help you give me some information's on what could be the problem with this monitor. I did connected the synch signals on the negative H/V since those MCR send negative sych.
Any help on what adjustments need to be done for my arcade to finally live again is welcomed :)

AFAIK, it will not work.......

If I am wrong, I would really appreciate someone showing me the way as this same problem kicked my butt some time ago.........

Hi, new to the site. Just bought the 19" vision pro for my Tron cabinet after seeing this post. Mine tells me out of range. H: 15.7 khz V: 31hz. How did you get yours to work? Idk if it's a sync issue or a resolution issue or perhaps I need to re wire my video cable from the board to a different configuration. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Been trying at this for a long time.

Updated. I think it has to do with the display resolution. From my research Tron uses:

H: 15.7khz
V: 31hz
512 x 480

And LCDs, I guess have trouble displaying it. The monitor recognized the sync input just cant display it. Obviously one person got it to work...

your pretty close to me.

do you still have the original monitor that was in the game?
if so you can have it fixed.

i have monitors here that will drop rite in the game if you need one.

put a CRT back in there and live happy.

shoot me a PM if you want one.

an LCD in a game looks like death.

Peace

Thanks but I have a working crt monitor. I bought an LCD to try to get the game to display correctly but on modern equipment. I know many people don't like this because they once saw or used one that looked wrong in some way. But I don't think any sane person would have an issue using an LCD as long as the game looked the same as the original, while at the same time consuming less energy, less weight, and easy to replace perks that come along with it. I'd like to find a compatible way to connect an LCD to the game and have it feel right and look right. It's been done a few times but the documentation just isn't quite there for Tron in particular. I talked to the creator or Tron HD but he was using a modern computer so that won't be an option for me as I want to retain the factory pcb, perhaps with a video reversible mod chip. But here's the pic of that project
